Hope you are in good hands.

Stay as calm as you can:
Breathe in so your belly inflates
Exhale fully.

Good luck with this new challenge.

Can you try acupuncture? I find it wonderful for anxiety/stress.

Sorry to hear about your anxiety OP. When you say that sedatives have little or no effect-do you mean IV sedation or tablets self administered?
I've had endoscopy ( I also have hiatus hernia, but none of your other health problems)with IV sedation & knew nothing about it apart from the initial swallowing bit.
Is there anyway that the operation could be done with just sedation? I'm sure you've already explored all the options, and my input probably isn't helping!
I think that you need calming before you get to the hospital, so acupuncture (as thegreylady suggested) or hypnosis might be an idea.
Thanks for you.

Thank you everyone :) our gp has now drugged me to the eyeballs lol. Acupuncture is not and option as needles are my nemesis tried it once in desperation and was running around with the needles attached I kid you not :( I saw a lovely anethesist today who was so kind and discovered my reputation proceeds me ! See when I am calm like now ( thank you tablets) I can be quite normal, but tell me you want to put needles and canulas in me or cut me open and I go from normal to wild maniac in about 20 seconds. And this is when sedation has very little effect. Apparently it's due to adrenaline and my fight or flight instinct :( both tablets and iv sedation for pre meds have no effect . Even the full knock out drugs before an op have to be upped as I just won't "go down " .
God I wish I could discover a solution, I am going to look into hypnosis as I've done cbt and aversion therapy and seen all sorts of psychologists . Thank you again ladies I do feel better "talking" on here where people don't just think I'm stupid xx
