Taking oromorph abroad

I'm going to Gran Canaria on Wednesday and in amongst my armoury of medication for severe and chronic back pain I have oromorph. In fact, I don't use it very often but like to know it's there.

Anyone done this and have any advice? I don't fancy a strip search or being thrown into jail. The bottle is clearly labelled and I have my prescription. It's probably too late to get a doctors letter.

All advice gratefully accepted. Smile

Well, short answer is: I wouldn't.

NHS Choices says you need at least a doctor's letter and possibly a personal licence as well. (Elsewhere I've read the licence is only if you are going for more than three months). You would need to carry it in hand luggage and as a liquid (assuming it is) it will attract the usual attention. Given it's basically legal heroin, I wouldn't - and I have to get my DH to another country in a few months' time carrying methadone, so actually I am doing it! But he takes it every day, I have no choice (as a painkiller, not as a heroin addict).
