Sorry, posted in error!

I have been prescribed Ramapril and just started on 1.25mg - doc said they would gently increase up to 10mg over time.

Thing is, it has given me a terrible headache (like a drill through my eyeball) and nausea. I feel terrible, like I am going to be sick pretty much all the time!

Will this go away once I get used to things? Presumably every time they up the dose, it will get worse?

Thanks for your help

I have a mitral valve prolapse but no regurgitation at my last check up, hope is still the same!
Sorry I have no experience of Ramipril, but I am on Atenolol ( betablocker) and I did have side effects when I started it and after dies was upped. However after a week this subsided and I have none.
My mum has been on Ramipril since her Aortic valve replacement 6 years ago, it can make her a bit light headed still though.

Sorry what I was going to say was you might find that as you get used to it the side effects will ease up.
Also perhaps it may be possible to put you on another drug.

Hi OP. DH has been on ramipril for a long time and never had any side effects.

Have you ever had a migraine? What you describe sounds just like my migraines. Do you have any loss of vision or coordination? I may be completely wrong, but it's worth checking. Can you get back to see your GP?

Hi, thanks for the feedback! Have only just started, first dose was Thurs night. Have only taken it at night as I have been I'm on my own with 3kuds during the day and can't risk feeling worse than I do. Will give it a week, to see if I get used to it.

Yes, my headache is just like a migraine. Paracetamol is not really touching it.....

I have the same drug OP - the first week or two I felt absolutely dreadful. Blood pressure through the floor ( it's already really low anyway), absolutely no appetite due to nausea, and upset tummy to boot. I lost quite a lot of weight in a short time and didn't have any spare to lose in the first place. Grim times. Suddenly stopped after a week or two as my body got more used to it I suppose.

Now, feel completely fine with it. Am on 2.5mg which does me nicely. Am taking it for a mild form of cardiomyopathy. Suddenly in the course of a year I have developed a keen interest in cardio matters!

AmI, thanks for your update!

I am hoping I will get used to it, although I will presumably be feeling awful every time they increase my dose - up to 10mg apparently!

I still feel nauseous but my migraine style headache has almost gone, so maybe I am more hopeful!! It is grim though....

having lots of high BP readings, and just found this thread, i've been on rampiril 2.5mg for 12 days, but upped to 5mg since yesterday and i feel dreadful! spent the morning in bed, and if i'm upright for more than an hour the headache and nausea returns, i thought i was heading for a 'flu Sad

are these common side effects then?

wickedfairy · 30/09/2014 14:06

Hi Jenny,

Just seen your message. I think it's normal to feel like that. I am about 1.5weeks in on 1.25mg and starting to feel better, thankfully.

Until my current pack runs out and they increase my dose to 2.5mg (then 5 then 7.5 then finally 10mg). I suspect I am going to feel grim for 2weeks after each dose change but I hope it doesn't get worse with each increase!

I hope you start feeling better soon, I only feel slight queasy when I wake up in the night (am taking mine before going to bed, so I minimise the amount of time I feel bad). I feel totally fine once I am up now, which I certainly didn't last week. Good luck x
