Ovarian cyst - freaking out a bit

Just needing some perspective as I suffer from health anxiety and can easily whip myself into a right state! Had a routine fertility MOT this morning - want to start trying for DC 2 and am getting on a bit so wanted to check as far as possible that everything was OK. The doctor found a cyst just over 4cm - he's suggested waiting 6 weeks and scanning again. He thinks that it's probably a corpus luteal cyst - but because it's slightly larger than normal he wants to check again. I'm really panicking that it's cancer - have had back ache off and on for the past few weeks which I put down to a twist or strain while camping but now I've convinced myself it's something dreadful. The doctor was very reassuring and just said if it hadn't gone next scan they could take it out but I really need get a grip! Can someone talk to me about their experiences? Thanks

Ovarian cysts are really common. Most of the time women don't even know we have them because they don't cause any symptoms.

There are 2 types, some are fluid filled sacks and some are little balls of cells. N.B. even the ones that are little balls of cells are NOT cancer.

The ones that are fluid filled sacks can fill and drain depeding on your cycle. That's probably why your doc wants to wait 6 weeks. If they find it has drained, you don't need to do anything about it.

I had one years ago. (I am an old fart Wink.) Mine was a ball of cells and I had to have surgery to remove it. I have been fine since, have had a child, etc.

both times I had scans in early pregnancy I was told I had an ovarian cyst. Both times it went by the second scan. I think they are totally normal tbh.
