My iron is low but I can't tolerate any iron tablets at all. I have had iron injections in the past but the staining that looks like bruising on my bottom lasted 2 years. My Dr said to try & increase iron in my diet as I am only mildly anaemic. I suggested could I try Spatone & he said yes. I forgot to ask how long for. I'm just taking one sachet a day.

Well I take two sachets a day and have done for the last 3 years, and apart from still being anaemic I'm fine!

Um, possibly stupid question but if you've taken 2 sachets a day for 3 years and are still anaemic, er, why are you still taking it?

I once worked out that, even taking into account the higher % availability/absorption of the iron in spatone, compared to my iron tablets, I'd have to consume 10 sachets per day to get the same dose I'd been prescribed, so I can't see one sachet per day, longterm, doing anything you any harm at all. Thanks for the replies.. When I next in the chemist I will check with the pharmacist. I know that there's not enough in it to rebuild stores if really low. Not sure if I should be taking 2 sachets for a while.

batteries yes that does sound stupid doesn't it! It generally keeps me falling below the ref range. If I stop taking it my levels plummet! So it does something just not that much, I have malabsorption issues so it's the best one for me.

Ah, I get it kittykat Smile

Can you up it to 3 sachets?

Kittykat7 · 17/09/2014 10:05

I phoned them up & they said it is ok to take everyday. I'll just take the one sachet as it's quite expensive. 2 is the maximum a day for adults.
