Possible bacterial infection in cheek

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 14/09/2014 11:51

Friday night I had a lump on my gum.

Saturday my cheek started to swell, this morning it's still swollen and tender.

I rang 111 they said visit GP within 3 days.

It is very uncomftable and I can't think of how to help myself until tomorrow.

Help please, I feel and look like crap!

Ibuprofen?

Walk-in centre? Brew

WildThong · 14/09/2014 12:38

Washing out your mouth with salty water will help a bit.

Swishing and then swallowing soluble pain relief is good too.

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 14/09/2014 14:01

I called the walk in centre as soon as they were open, they didn't think I should go in Hmm

They suggested 111

I will give salt water a try, thanks!

I have been taking ibuprofen

Oh dear god it's uncomfortable Sad

Salt was wash has made my mouth feel fresher

I don't know why I didn't think of that as I always make DD do it for mouth ulcers.

Will try soluble pain relief next.

It's swollen from beneath my eye socket to my jaw.

That sounds so painful, Flowers
I think salt water is supposed to draw out infection. I hope you feel better soon. I don't like this phone advice process, if it worsens go to the walk-in before it closes.

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 14/09/2014 14:44

Thank you Thanks

I will definitely go if it worsens. DP has just returned with soluble paracetamol.

He has informed me the swelling has def gone down as this morning it was horrendous under my eye.

That's progress, right?

Good, do let us know how you get on.

Madamecastafiore · 14/09/2014 14:52

Peroxyl mouthwash has hydrogen peroxide in which will help. It oxidises the bacteria.

bonzo77 · 14/09/2014 14:53

This is almost certainly a spreading infection due to a dental abcess. You need to see a dentist to determine which tooth has caused it and the correct treatment. Now the swelling has started to subside antibiotics are of little value. Long term this needs dental treatment. antibiotics but time but will not cure.

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 14/09/2014 15:51

Yes I expected I would need to see a dentist too.

I have sent Dp out for the mouthwash, thanks for the recommendation.

Hopefully will be able to see a dentist or GP tomorrow. Any other ideas for getting me through until then, gratefully received Smile

I've just had exactly this. It came back week after week dispite ABs reducing it. In the end I had the tooth out- it had a little cyst on the very bottom of it.

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 14/09/2014 20:20

Tooth out??

How is it now, since the extraction? Are you OK?

OP posts:
NickNacks · 14/09/2014 20:28

Yes I had it 3 lots of 5 day ABs and each time it came back. It was broken anyway so dentist just suggested we pull it.

It was out like a dream. I'm dentist phobic and even I couldn't believe how well it went. No problems since and extraction and healing was completely pain free.

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 16/09/2014 14:52

UPDATE

Thank you all for your suggestions and get well soons Thanks

I have just managed to see a dentist and she has prescribed Anti bs

Like Nick I will have an extraction and I'm hoping all will be well. I am dentist phobic too.

The swelling on my face decreased and all the yuck went back into my gum in a humongous abscess

The abscess has started to leak into my mouth - it's vile. Sorry if that's TMI !

Looking forward to the anti bs starting to take effect.

Thanks again for all of your suggestions - I tried every one and they all seemed to help Smile
