New mirena - urgent advice please

Had a mirena fitted on Monday. Not painful as such when it was inserted, no cramps but a sharp stabbing pain in my left side when it went in. 2 days of spotting which I've read to be normal.
Today however I have pains and a sensation I can only describe as labour. Loads of pressure in my bottom like just before you start to push.
is this normal ?

No. Get back to your GP.

caz1010 · 11/09/2014 18:59

Does it warrant a & e or wait til gp opens in morning ?
feels like I'm being poked in my side but the pressure is the more urgent thing

have you checked where the strings are? Maybe your body is trying to expel it

caz1010 · 11/09/2014 19:03

Going to run a bath and try and check the strings.
my tummy feels very bloated and hard to touch not sure again if this normal

I think you should call 111

Can you feel the strings?

caz1010 · 11/09/2014 19:18

Yes strings are there

Sorry, just seen that you're checking the strings now.

As you had sharp one sided pain when it was inserted and now have the symptoms you've described, I'd be worried that your uterus is perforated which can lead to the feeling of recital pressure you're describing.

Either call 111 or go to A&E but I really wouldn't leave it if I were you.

Good luck.

SublimeCorpse · 11/09/2014 19:20

Did the go say she would leave the strings long?

Titsalinabumsquash · 11/09/2014 19:21

A&E to be on the safe side. Good luck Thanks

Hi I'm about to embark on having a coil for the first time.
Copper V Mirena ?
It's a tricky one . I don't mind periods as this usually tells me I'm not pregnant. Any thoughts on which us best? Comments very welcome.
Thankyou

Caz 1010 . Sorry I didn't mean to jump onto your question , I thought it was a new title .??

Hi Cozy, I've had both the copper and mirena and have to say that I prefer the mirena.

My periods were very heavy and very painful, the copper coil made them worse. I was constantly aware of something being there - maybe it was fitted badly but I had an odd sensation in my lower tummy that didn't ever completely go away. The instant I got up off the couch after having it removed I felt the difference.

The mirena has been far better for me. Insertion was fine - no need for has and air as I've seen suggested - no worse than a smear. Hardly any pain afterwards, possibly the odd cramp and a bit of spotting for a few days, but that was the worst of it.

I've had no problems since, just had my 5th period since the mirena was fitted and it was a very very light bleed that lasted 3 days.

I'm happy with it and for me, the mirena was the best of the two.
