Baby with 1st cold - advise needed?????

Hi there

I have a little 4 month old who's picked up a bit of a cold/flu from me. I went to the doc yesterday and was given antibiotics and am on the mend but she seems to have got worse overnight - the doc told me that my dd was fine!

I'd been giving her Medised Infant for 3 days prior but have read on the packet that you mustn't give it for longer than 3 days. So yesterday was the first day with none. I'm using the Saline drops to help her breath as well as 'Snuffle Bug' (a baby vicks) on her chest and a little near her nose. She's sleeping more than usual and seems to have also gone off her food.

When should I worry? She doesn't have a temperature but I can see she's not herself. Any advise would be much appreciated.

Many, many thanks

My general rule of thumb is that I worry when my children get very lethargic, no eye contact or very high fever.
I also worry if it lasts more than a few days in such little ones. Another of my general rules of thumbs is that I rather go and see my GP one too many times, than one too few......Hope she is better soon!

HI Tayroo,

If she doesn't have a fever I would try not to worry too much and don't worry about her being off her food, just try and keep up her liquid intake. Watch out for any signs that she does have a fever or that she is having trouble breathing and if you see either, go back to the GP. Is she your first - I know what a worry they are. Will your GP speak to you on the phone - if so I would be tempted to give him/her a call and ask if you can carry on giving the Medised Infant.
