Tailbone...is this right really worried

For the last 6 months or so I have noticed that I can feel a hard bony lump about where my tailbone is. Now I'm not sure if this is normal it's just towards the end of the day it feels a bit sore. Am I over thinking this, it's really driving me mad with worry but I'm too scared to go to the GP as they will do a rectal examination and that makes me feel sick, likewise I have a phobia of hospitals. Daft I know. I googled and came up with some sort of cyst (which it's not as there is no redness and this feels like it's on/or the bone) or some rare cancer. So you can imagine what I'm thinking.
So can anyone else actually feel a lump where this is or should I be more worried than I already am?

I have too.

Just wanted to bump this up to see if anyone else has any ideas, I am driving myself mad with the thought of it being something really bad, it doesn't seem any bigger just painful when I sit, kind of a burning sensation.

Mine was more prominent after a back-to-back child birth.
It can become sore if you sit on a hard chair for a long time at work?

Whilst I am at work it's fine, it's when I sit on my own soft sofa when it hurts or just feels sore, weird...
