Have got worries regarding my breasts. Have noticed that my nipples receed slightly when I lean back or put my arms above my head. They only do this if they are not erect at the time. If I lean forward, put my arms to my side they go back into shape.

I know that nipple inversion can be a sign of breast cancer but this isn't inversion , just a kind of saging backwards. Normal post breastfeeding changes? Slightly more pronounced on left side.

Have got a mammogram booked anyway as close relative died of ovarian cancer. Doctor who booked me in for it noted my concerns and did a breast exam but felt that everything ok and what I was worried about was normal sagging . Of course, as I was exposed in a cold room my nipples behaved perfectly and the thing I was worried about was not really obvious.Sounds funny typing it (and maybe reading it)

Anyone have any positive stories - has this happened to anyone else? Am having a slightly stressful weak with a dying relative, a housesale and viral pneumonia so not in the most relaxed frame of mind.........

do you mean they kind of pull back into the breast when they're not erect and you move your arms

have just checked mine and they seem to do the same so I think it is most probably totally normal

or am I getting the wrong idea

Yes that's exactly what I mean ! Am starting to feel a little reasured - and quite giggly about the breastchecking mumsnetters around the country

Just muscle movement I would have thought and nothing to worry about. As you move and the breast tissue lifts, your nipples are pulled upwards and backwards.

Wilbur · 22/09/2006 15:26

Mine don't seem to do this (and I have just been blowing on them to see if it's different when they are erect ) but I have noticed a change in the shape of the breast just above the nipple, ie it is more concave now, so perhaps that it similar to what you are experiencing. I have assumed that is to do with age (boo) and changes in the way the fat is stored now I have finished b'feeding. My norks are pretty small tho, and the changes in them are not too noticeable, especially when I wear my "I am still 17" blinkers.

Sorry to hear you're stressed though - sounds like you've got a lot on your plate. I'm sure your breasts are fine, but you can always ask the practice nurse to check them regularly to put your mind at rest.
