I have a persistent ache in my left breast

I used to get painful breasts at the start of my period and the doctor said it was non-malignant mastitis. I tolerated it.

I've noticed now that its gone . BUT i now get a sore bit all the time on my left breast. There is no lump, but its been nagging away at me for some months. I particularly notice it when picking up my kids or holding something against it.

I have no desire at all to go to the doctor. I am sure he/she will say what they always say about anything that isn't a leg hanging off - "keep an eye on it and come back if it changes".

I'd like loads of you to say you get exactly the same and its not worth bothering about .

don't think any unusual breast pain should be ignored. might be a muscle problem if worse when picking up kids - i definitely would not ignore it though. i know you don't want to hear that , but i would just get it checked again, especially if been nagging away for months. can you see different doc or practice nurse?

ive noticed this recently on my left breast too. mines down the outside on the left. cant feel any lumps but is quite tender.

i had a breast check few years ago as there ws a lump which turned out to be a cyst or something that they said should just break down over time.

last month or so has def been sore though

Thanks girls. Ironically I had a full health check appointment a couple of weeks ago that I had to cancel, would rather have discussed it there. Might just make the appointment after all.

Could it be your bra not fitting properly? I was in the wrong size post pregnancy and after a while I started to feel sort of bruised. Or do you sleep on that side and are maybe sleeping awkwardly on yourself.

I sleep on my front a lot but always have......

Can't tell you what it is but I also get it too on my left breast noticed it as soon as ds was born (he is 2 now) when I mentioned it to GP she said "oh well pregancy f**ks your body up"!

I had a pain in one breast only which luckily only turned out to be some kind of infection. Definitely don't ignore it. Go and see your GP.

Hi. I had consistent pain in one breast and the lovely locum older GP (male) I saw said that there was absolutely no reason why a woman with painful breasts should have to keep worrying about it and promptly sent me off for a scan. Because I was at the younger end and breast feeding I had one type of scan first and then, when there was no improvement after a while, I had the other type. Nothing showed up in either. My GP eventually reckoned it was something to do with my body getting ready to get pregnant each month (I was in fact very ready for baby no. 2 by then...) and in fact as soon as I fell pregnant the pain stopped.

Now am pregnant have permanent bruisy type feeling in my other breast and a slight icky crusty discharge - am currently wondering to myself if I can solely breastfeed with just one breast - oh no, - am I becoming a breast hypochondriac? Will check problem with my GP at next anti-natal check - as it happens to be a new GP and they seem to have lost the notes I carefully brought with me, at least she won't cast a look of suspicion at me initially .

Felt so much getter getting a scan - recommend you do too.

i get it in the right one! i was referred to the hospital and although i didn't get a scan they said they couldn't find anything. i wish they had scanned though it's annoying.

Thanks girls, all very interesting. I might go just to be on the safe side. Will let you know if they tell me its a virus and all I can do is eat my way through it .
