We've used just condoms for ages, but it's a faff and I want something I don't have to think about. I was on the pill for years for skin problems, Dianette, and eventually came off it because I was fat, felt lobotomised and had no sex drive. Am a bit wary of trying it again (and DH not keen either!), although I guess they come with different levels of hormones.

I want something I don't have to think about, but find the idea of the implant or IUD / IUS a bit horrifying - I'd like to have a bit more control over it if it goes wrong. What would be a good thing to try that wouldn't affect weight / sex drive? I quite like having periods, weirdly, so not bothered about controlling that. Am feeling bamboozled by the NHS website, and want to have an idea before visiting the GP. Probably won't have any more kids, but not sure I'm quite ready for the op yet.

Have you considered your DH having the snip as an option? Obviously that would involve making a definite decision on the no more kids thing, but its the only thing I can think of that ticks all your boxes. Alternatively you could give up sex. Grin

Lastlostmonkey, I am in exactly your position.
I've heard lots of scare stories regarding the coil
, help !

The big questions are - how old are you and would another baby be a disaster?

If you are healthy then the Pill is as good as anything- at least up to the age of 45 nowadays. But if you are overweight, smoke or have high BP then it's not so good. The Pill doesn't always affect weight- it never did with me.

The IUD is a good option and some people love it but it's not 100% ( nothing is).

I have a 13 and 9 yr old so wouldn't really relish another !
I now have a life back lol

Thank you. flexibility yes, I think that could be an option, but DC2 is only 15 months so it seems a bit early. pinkfrocks I think another baby would be a disaster really! I get bad SPD which is worse each pg and lasts afterwards and our marriage is only just surviving right now. The thought of it is not good...

cozy I did a massive amount of distracting internet 'research' and decided I wasn't happy with any of the options. We will stick with condoms for now and get them cheap off the internet. Will think about the snip for either / both of us in a year or so. I can't face that oestrogen fug and losing my sex drive again.

no proof that the pill affects weight. Different hormones have different effects on different people, so ask for a different pill to try.
