Anxious about DTaP booster - please be gentle

DS (4) is having his DTaP booster this morning. He hasn't had any vaccinations since he was about 20 months. I keep worrying that he might have a huge reaction and 'change' in himself - yes, I know, I know. I am envisioning a repeat of the sorts of stories to be found in dark corners of the internet. I know reactions do happen, and they are mostly mild, and I do also understand it's incredibly rare for a catastrophic reaction to take place.

But they do happen....

I would appreciate some reassuring posts. For what it's worth, DS seems to be pretty healthy; he's never had a major reaction to vax in the past; his temperature is normal this morning.

I feel worried.

why would you worry about that one if all the others have been fine? I didnt think there was a big issue with the DTaP, are you thinking of the MMR? (which is also due around the time of the DTaP booster)

He is far more likely to suffer a catastrophic injury in a road accident on the way to the surgery but you're not panicking about that. The vaccination only feels wrong because you're doing something unusual to him rather than taking one of the risks you take routinely.

Thank you - I'm grateful for stern, no-nonsense replies Grin. He's had it. Hopefully he'll just have a sore arm and that's it.

I always find something to worry about.
