Am thinking (only thinking at the mo) of making a doctors appointment for tommorow to discuss how crap I am feeling.

Question is, what will they do ?? I know they will offer me tablets but I can't decide if thats a good idea or not. Had seroxat when I had pnd with Dd2 and they made me feel worse.

Oh and can you drink on them nowadays or not ??

If you need them, you need them. I tried 2 other kinds before I settled with venlefaxine. And I still drank with them.

I think I do need them, think I have for a while but am a bit scared of them sending me even more loopy.

They won't, not if your GP listens properly, and you explain clearly how you feel. And if you do start feeling worse, you can stop taking them and try another.

When I first had PND I was upset at the thought of taking prozac (which was what I tried first). My GP said to just think of it as a daily tonic pill that would make me feel better and actually referred to it as vitamin p!

I hope you get the help you need.

Can I ask what side effects you are having ??

I think thats what worries me most. With Seroxat my jaw wouldn't stop shaking.

Dior, do you think it's because once you have been listened to and taken seriously you feel a bit better? I must admit, I was feeling better as soon as the prescription was written.

So you see nutcracker, you won't end up more loopy!

Bugsy2 · 20/09/2006 13:08

seroxat had quite alot of side effects. There are lots of other ADs. Your GP will try & work out which ones are best. Just make sure you remind him/her about teh side effects you had with seroxat.
I'd be in a real mess without them. I have a few side effects when I first start taking them, but after a few weeks those go & I feel better.

Well I am pleased for you anyway Dior, and hope the effects taper off soon (they will).

nutcracker · 20/09/2006 13:15

Blimey thats quite a list. Is it best to take them of a night if you have bad side effects ??

My g.p is on maternity leave again so I'm not sure who i'll get.

Dior, sorry to stalk you around the depression threads but just wanted to send you hugs and sympathy and hopes that you'll be feeling better soon. In fact same goes for everybody else who is suffering at the moment!

nutcracker · 20/09/2006 13:25

Ahh right, thanks Dior, will definatly take them at night then I think.

Have u tried herbal medicine first. I am taking St Johns Wort at the moment and although it's only been 2 weeks, I have noticed a difference already, it usually takes 4-6 weeks for them to kick in.

Another herbal medicine is 5-HTP, which raises the serontonin levels in the brain which helps with depression/anxiety/panic disorder etc. You can buy both on Holland & Barratts website or there are many other sites.

You don't get the nasty side-effects with them like you do with AD's. I was taking Citrolpram and the side effects were horrendous. I was breadking out in sweats, having hallucination, nightmares and felt totally spaced out and zombiefied. I know there are many AD's on the market, but I would rather not bother.

Also, excercise regularly, excercise releases the feel good chemical endorphins from the brain.

Good luck in whatever u decide.
