How can I reduce LDL cholesterol?

Just had some blood results and been told I have a 1% chance of a Heart attack in the next 10 years due to my cholesterol.

How can I lower it? I'm a bit freaked out!

Calm down, that's not actually very high odds Smile What was your total cholesterol?

Exercise-half an hour brisk walk daily

Reduce weight if you're over weight.

Lots of leafy veg and fruit, oats and linseed did it for me along with taking benecol yoghurt after my main meal.

No butter or cream and using olive oil in cooking.

Thanks dame. Total was 6, told 5 is desirable.

Exercise is a problem, but clearly the thing I need to prioritise.

I know it isn't a huge risk but first time I've really thought about it!

My doctor said under 6 is desirable. I think you're worrying unnecessarily Smile

Interesting how it varies. I did wonder if it was focused on as the rest of the results didn't offer any answer to my symptoms!

I will try not to worry but follow your suggestions, thank youSmile

Do you know what number your 'good' cholesterol is?

olivo · 22/08/2014 16:09

1.1 for HDL, 3.8 for LDL

Iirc it should be over 2 so perhaps up your oily fish intake, avocados?

olivo · 22/08/2014 18:17

Hmm Am veggie, so don't eat fish. Am going to have to try and brave avocados Confused. Not a big fan, but if needs must!

Thanks Dame.
