DS4 has been on the waiting list at Southampton for just over a year to have a repair for his hypospadias (hole on his willy is on the side not the end) They have phoned this morning to say he's on the list for next Tues afternoon and will stay overnight. DS1 is due his op the following Mon, to sort out his retractile testicles (it's goolies a go-go 'round here!) So will have two invalids at home, DS4 will have a catheter for the week. My parents are off on hols tomorrow for 6 weeks - they help out alot - so it's gonna be fun
Any advice or just a bit of a hug would be much appreciated. Can you see my stiff upper lip? (or my quivering bottom one)

No advice, but very good luck to both your babies/children. Hope the ops turn out well for both, with the minimum discomfort.

fairyjay · 19/09/2006 12:07

It's as hard on you as on the little ones. At least you haven't got weeks to dwell megalegs - hope it goes well for both of your boys.

Good luck for tomorrow Whitestar - it's not fun taking your child in for an operation, but you'll soon be out and on the other side.

Hi megalegs - my DS2 is having the hypospadias operation in November and I am getting nervous already, so really feel for you! Presumably you have read the other threads on this already? It sounds like it is generally much worse for the mums than for the babies! Will be thinking of you on Tues - let us know how it goes

whitestar · 25/09/2006 21:47

Good luck thinking of you !!!!

Lots of hugs

Thanks whitestar - how's your ds doing? I've spent the weekend wondering if they'll have ds4 tomorrow. He had an abcess on his gum and needed antibiotics. He still has a very slight temp but they've said bring him in in the morning. Just printing off map and then off to bed to try and sleep. DH has a bad cold so is quarantined as we're trying to keep DS1 well for his op on Monday, he went to bed with a runny nose and a headache!! I shall be so glad when this is over. Scared, scared, scared.

Oooh my friends DS1 had retractile testicle op done at Southampton last year. He was fine.

She says 'Just get lots of favourite invalid food in and make the TV room is as comfortable as possible and borrow all your friends DVDs! They'll be a bit grumpy for a bit but will soon perk up!'

I say, take tissues & bottled water for yourself! Very best wishes to all of you.

Would you believe it after a morning of playing "Is there a bed, yes there is no there isn't, oh yes there is!" We finally got to the ward at midday. The anaethetist came to see us, a lovely, lovely, very, very clever lady. We spoke at length about ds4's SN, so far undiagnosed hypotonia and developmental delay. She was interested to hear that a recent blood test showed he had raised muscle protein levels (CK) and said this could be a problem. She then went on to tell me about a rare condition which can be worsened by the gas used in the GA. Didn't fully understand but the implications were that until ds's SN are investigated further it wasn't worth the risk of him having a GA. Also, when the surgeon examined him he said he would need his undescended testicles bringing down as weel as the hypospadias repair. So his surgey has been cancelled for the tme being. I naivelly thought that his records would go to the hospital and that they would know his history but that's not the case. I did phone and speak to a nurse about him last week but that was more about his care on the ward.

DS1 is still due to have his op on Monday, just need to keep him cold free for a few more days.

Shall be so relieved when this is over - only minor ops but feel emotionally exhausted.

Blimey Megalegs - poor you! How did it go today?

Was thinking of you as i was meant to have tonsillectomy today but got a virus so it's been cancelled til Nov now.

Please let us know how your ds got on.

MegaLegs · 02/10/2006 20:03

DS1 is home - tucked up in bed. Very weary and a bit sore. His op was meant to take an hour but took two as they had probs retrieving one of his testicles, it was high in his abdomen. I was a wreck, they finally let me into recovery but he was still asleep and very disorientated with morphine. He has been v.sick - a side effect of the morphine. In between the throwing up he is actually quite cheery and has enjoyed watching non stop dvds on the children's ward.
I met the parents of the little boy attacked by a rotweiller, he was having his stitches out. They were amazing and said their little boy was doing well and looking forward to going home.
