Almost certainly tmi but lactose intolerance?

I feel a bit daft about this, but I have some frankly annoying stomach problems which have led me to wonder if I might be lactose intolerant.

For as long as I can remember, I have been unable to eat ice cream. At its worst, I would eat some and within minutes have to dash to the loo with awful, awful diarrhea. I thought it was just an ice cream issue so have avoided it for the past 20 years or so. However, over the last few years, I seem to have the same problems with other dairy. Some is worse than others. Butter makes me, um, go, I had too much cheese yesterday and that and a tea with milk this afternoon (normally I drink black coffee) made for a quick, painful dash to the toilet. Yoghurt seems okay, but if I have milk on my cereal in the morning I feel nauseous for a couple of hours.

I go freezing cold before the toilet dash and if it's really bad, can feel yuck for a good few hours after.

Is this a lactose intolerance? DH has no sympathy, my parents think that digestive problems are made up and I am sure my GP will ridicule me. I'm fed up.

could be. Why not try lactose free milk and dairy free spreads and see if it helps

p.s. lactofree milk and cheese is freely available in the supermarket (it is made from cows milk but the lactose has been broken down)

I never even thought about trying that. I had it in my mind I was being ridiculous. Thank you!
