funding of school meals

Having just watched Jamies' Return to School Dinners, and seen the problems caused by children being given control of their own dinner money, I wondered what you thought of this idea.

Why not simply reduce Child Benefit by £7.50 per week for children of school age, and directly fund school meals. Anyone currently entiltled to "free meals" should have another benefit increased by £7.50 per day for children of school age.

Take away the choice and provide school meals for all children.

Some families rely on Child Benefit to help make ends meet. Taking away most of it will do far more harm than good.

In theory those families should be entitled to school meals but in reality they are not. If you are poorly paid enough to be entitled to Working Tax Credits and actually claim them then you are not entitled to free school meals.

School meals should be free, or at least so ridiculously cheap, that the money wouldn't buy a bag of chips down the road.

sad reality is that if that were to happen the government would just divert more money elsewhere probably causes a net effect of less than the £7.50. it would also give the government to start taking away for other things ie £1 for dentist £1 for doctors etc

give the government an opportunity..
