Leg pains help

Sorry if this is long.

To varying degrees I have had pains in my left leg for years, I remember worrying about them during my first pregnancy 3 years ago. Recently though it has become much worse.....my leg is very sore, and in the past few days my right leg has developed similar pains.

Some more recent background....I gave birth 8 weeks ago. During my pregnancy my leg pain increased. Always the left leg, but the pain moved around...behind the knee, the ankle, the thigh etc. I got one quick ultrasound which revealed nothing. Then I had a breathing episode and following a d-dimer test the doctor decided I had had a blood clot on lung and I was put on heparin flown back to UK in an air ambulance (from where I live in E.Europe). In the UK they did all sorts of tests (although nothing on my leg - all focused on lungs) and found nothing...although they did say that the heparin could have dissolved a clot. I was taken off heparin but advised to wear socks anyway as I am high risk (BMI 35). They also said raised d-dimer was normal in pregnancy. Rest of pregnancy fine (but leg pain still there). I stopped wearing the socks about 3weeks after birth on advise from MW.

So now am back in E.Europe and the leg pain is worse. It is generally ok in the mornings although I can still feel it a little. By the evening it is awful. It could behind my knee (in one very specific place), in my ankle (more general), in my thigh etc. It can keep me awake and paracetamol or Ibuprofen make no difference at all. Now feeling similar pains in right leg too. It hurts the same sitting, standing walking etc. I don't feel like it is worse on impact, but if I have been walking etc it gets worse.

I have also had recently 2 episode of severe lower back pain.....to the extent that i could hardly walk...hunched over etc. Both went away after a week or so, but required codine to get through the day.

I am a bit worked up because of the 'clot' episode....am reluctant to go back to doctor here but am scared. I don't have any redness or swelling...but my veins are very visible, on both legs.

Any thoughts or adice? Thanks so much for reading!

Interesting that you mention the back pain. The leg pain could be referred pain from your back. Mine was very bad when pregnant with ds2 (16) it got better when he was about 10 weeks old. It still comes and goes but was no worse when pregnant with ds3. I hurt my back 30 years ago. you need to see your GP.
