Is this food poisoning?

Dh has had diarrhoea and stomach cramps for 5 days now, he's also very sleepy and has a 'fuzzy' head.

He's convinced he's 'caught'a bug from someone, but as the children and I are fine I suspect it's food poisoning. I think he should see a doctor tbh but he thinks otherwise (!)

Any ideas?

'a bug' can often equal 'food poisoning'. Some food poisoning illness are notifiable for public health reasons.

Certainly if I was ill as you describe for 5 days then I would consider it time to go to the doctor. Common-or-garden food poisoning should start getting better by now.

But - men! Either a teeny cold lays them unbearably low, or they must soldier on through the most vile of illnesses without showing weakness.

Def. see Dr if it has been 5 days. What did he have to eat in the 48 hours before he became ill - (that the rest of you didn't have?)

Prettycandles, completely agree with your last sentence!

3littlefrogs, neither of us can remember tbh. dh doesn't eat meat (but occasionally eats fish) so we often eat different things anyway. All we can think of that may be different is; dh had some fresh salmon 3 days before he started to feel ill or part of a bag of watercress maybe 1 or 2 days before.

My money would be on the watercress. I still think a gp check up advisable. The thing is, if it is a notifiable bug, other people might be at risk. Usually it is a case of being checked over, and providing a stool sample for the local lab.

i would get him to the docs - i had a dire case of salmonella poisoning - thought it was stomach bug until I was almost fainting and feverish.... went to docs ( i am in aus) - had to get such strong anitbiotics - ring public health and tell them I was ill and get permission to prescribe drugs - boy did it make a difference BUT it was so bad I had to take a course of 20 days of antibiotics!!

I had the diarrhoea, vomiting, bad cramps and the fuzzy head etc. Mine came on pretty quick - ahd the chicken for lunch and felt a little off that night - by next morning - not a pretty sight.

sorry meant to add within a day of taking the medication - felt sooo much better.

If you think it might be salmonella, take a poo sample to the doctors. They'll see immediately. It's very contagious. You need to disinfect your hands after going to the toilet.

BTW, even if it is food poisoning and you both ate the 'bad' food, it's perfectly possible for only one of you to get ill, so don't discount that just because you're not ill.

How is he today?
