Strange fruit (10 / 10 club week 7)

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here

and more detailed information here

and as usual I can't find our recipe thread to link to - is it in the recipe section?

must clean now, then make big f' off cake for dp's b'day.

but the breaking news is that I have FINISHED MY COURSEWORK! All of it! I am free for 2 weeks until I start my next course!

And to celebrate, I have eaten a banana.

Yay!

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2006 08:26

Morning my beautiful people

Hope you are all well and that this week finds you feeling energised and ready to eat lots of cabbage.

My goal for the week is to eat more of my 10 a day as vegetables so any ideas to help me do this would be appreciated.

Have started off with my usual breakfast though - 5 portions - too early for broccoli for me

Who are you sniggering at? My god Filly there are two of you Virgoans in the house?

I have a great banana cake recipe, you know

Morning

Tahina dip - very easy to make, Tahini, lemon juice, garlic and black pepper - mix together with water, adding water slowly to gain the right consistency. Then eat with raw vege.

Cucumbers are great to eat - just start gnawing

The pic of me in the garden is my SIL garden - not mine
I am looking for a new home with garden as currently in an apartment, and even though the park down the road is fab - I miss my own patch of turf big time!

Thanks for the pic Franny You look really great!

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2006 12:16

We are a quiet little gang this morning, I hope everyone is ok and we have not all drifted away.

Thanks for the dip idea and the kind remark Paps

I am still about, sort of. Went running this morning, not a lot of energy today. Tiring weekend?

Had three tiny apples (2 portions) and muesli (1).

I will try to run Monday/Wednesday/Friday this week. Am only doing biking after school this week, not before, so that should be practical (40 minutes or so on the bike per day).

Clary · 18/09/2006 12:25

oooh me me!

I reckon I eat 10 FAVUs most days but could always do with encouragement. Too much fruit and not enough veg too.

Today: banana, nectarine, 1 big and 2 small apples, 2 plums, green beans with lunch. That's 6 so far. Cycled to work (15 mins) and obv home again. That's a good day if I can get in four more FAVUs tonight, yes?

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2006 12:28

Ooh welcome Clary

Lovely to see a new person. Make yourself at home and the others will be along later I am sure...

I am going out to get some dipping type veg later - ones I don't normally eat like cauli, pepper, etc. Any more ideas?

Oh, and why is the thread title about lynching?

NotQuiteCockney · 18/09/2006 12:35

I have kale to wade through this week, so might try making that tagine with chickpeas, tomato, aubergine and spinach, only with kale instead of spinach?

(Damn, I have spinach too. What are they thinking? I have spinach, kale, lettuce, celery ... gah.)

Papillon · 18/09/2006 12:38

Hi Clary - here is the recipe thread

Vegetable dips - aubergine dip

Vegetable pies? I do a spinach pie that is very easy and I often use frozen spinach making it even easier!

It is quiet in here this morning, but that´s Mondays. We will have to go get FMF her allotment (hope the headache is better) and Pan probably found a girl at the fair

NotQuiteCockney · 18/09/2006 12:40

Spinach pie is made with filo? Oooh, actually, I could do spanicopita, I have to get filo for other things, but more filo in our lives would be good ...

Papillon · 18/09/2006 12:44

To add courgette or carrot to a spinach pie I use a potato peeler.

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2006 13:13

Yes I am regretting the title actually and hoping no-one would notice...

I thought it was sort of appropriate, I mean we are all quite strange

but it is one of those jokes that wore thin very quickly, I am not looking forward to posting the whole week under it tbh

NotQuiteCockney · 18/09/2006 13:48

Well, it's a good song, at least.

Greensleeves · 18/09/2006 13:51

Franny...what were you thinking!! This knocks the barbed wire thing into a cocked hat

Today I have mostly been eating broccoli, carrots and Bramley apples (three, actually)

fullmoonfiend · 18/09/2006 14:03

I'm heee--re. Some of us work you know! Recovering after the most fabulous roast dinner yeasterday where we had 8 adults and 9 children and had so many vegetable dishes there wasn't really any room or any need for the chickens Most f the veg came from my allotment [preen] Followed by home grown apple and blackberry spongey pudding. I have been slacking lately so have just had tomato sarnies for lunch and a yohurt with fresh peaches and seeds in. I'm just not hungry enough for snacking at the moment. So will have lots of veg in my thai curry tonight. Exercise on a Monday is always easy for me after 5 hours at preschool and a loooong walk home from school with the Half-Moons

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2006 14:03

Look it is hard to think of humourous and appropriate fruit and veg related titles at 8 am in the morning. Well, it is for me anyway.

Please post your suggestions for next week below and I will be most grateful.

I'm jealous. I want to see pix of F&Z and Papillon. And, well, everyone else too
Is Paps all ethereal and wispy and startled faun like I imagine?

fullmoonfiend · 18/09/2006 14:07

Fresh and Juicy?

If you prepare photos FMF we could have another screening next Sunday night? The vegetables all go to the drive in! I will try and get a closer shot of me - tried taking one before with ds in sling, but then realised after posing for awhile that the camera was flat

Papillon · 18/09/2006 15:31
