I've had a red face for the last few days, it's looks like I've been out in the sun. Not sunburnt as such just colouring. Face is very noticably darker than the rest of me!
Skin is bumpy feeling, it doesn't look raised or bumpy but does feel rough to touch, mostly on my forehead and chin. And it's itchy, not constantly and unbearably but it does itch a bit.

So can you mumsnetters solve the mystery of the Wierdly red face!!

(Will prob go to Dr's this week if it doesn't go but would like to know what it might be, Have googled for absolutely ages and can't find anything that looks like it!)

Have you used any new products on your face?

3littlefrogs · 17/09/2006 21:33

Have you used a new cosmetic product? Or new washing product on face cloth or anything like that?

anniediv · 17/09/2006 21:33

Could it be this slapped cheek

shazronnie · 17/09/2006 21:34

could it be rosacea?

airy · 17/09/2006 21:36

Nope, no new products, no products at all actually, apart from shower gel, which I've used for years. Don't really wear makeup unless I'm going out, which I havn't! lol
Don't think it's slapped cheek, was my first thought but it doesn't look like that at all, it's all over my face, I look like this except not so angry looking!

Have you eaten anything unusual?

airy · 17/09/2006 21:43

Ummmm, I don't think so Ledodgy. Am trying to think now, face has been red for about three days. If it was somrthing I ate would it have been something that day? I didn't even think of that, could food do this!?

It is weird I ahd something weird happen to me 2 weeks ago and never found out what it was, On the saturday morning my top lip swelled up, I took some piriton and it went down, then on the sunday evening my eye went really itchy and then I got weird hives on my arms, legs and stomach so I took Pition again and my eye was still a bit swollen the next day but the rash had gone. I haven't a clue what caused it.

airy · 17/09/2006 21:49

I might pick up some piriton tommorow actually Ledodgy. It could I suppose just be a wierd one off reaction? Will give that a go before I bother with the doctors

Urticaria?

colditz · 17/09/2006 21:52

You had a cold? I get viral rashes, some of them are really peculiar.

airy · 17/09/2006 21:55

Just had a look at that one Jalopy, it seems to be blotchy, spotty type rash, I'm just completely red! lol
It is really wierd, I am wondering how I'll get to the Dr to show him my red face..I can't imagine leaving the house without putting loads of makeup on so people don't look at me funny, but then the Dr won't see it either! lol

OP posts:
airy · 17/09/2006 21:56

I havn't had anything Colditz, well had tonsiltis but that was a couple of weeks ago now.
It could be a viral rash I suppose, would just have to sit that one out wouldn't I?

Have just consulted dh who usually is a mine of information about such things, he says it sounds like reaction to medication of some sort. Have you taken anything at all in last 3-4 days, however innocuous it might seem?

airy · 17/09/2006 22:08

Medication..no. Was on antibiotics for tonsilitis but as I said that was a couple of weeks ago now. Um took pain killers today but couldn't be that obviously!
Thanks for trying to solve my mystery though, appreciate everyone trying to help

Make sure you post when you find out what it is!

airy · 17/09/2006 22:10

I will do ...it will probably be something really boring and obvious now! lol

3littlefrogs · 17/09/2006 22:13

Just asked him again: He says" when did you start antibiotics, when did you stop and what were they???"

airy · 17/09/2006 22:20

Oh started them about four weeks ago, ended up having to take them for two weeks, first week I had penicllin vk?? or something like that, second week Augmentin, after first week didn't sort it.
So finished taking them two weeks ago.
Have had both these before and never had a problem with them, could they have caused this now?

3littlefrogs · 17/09/2006 22:30

Have you eaten anything with monosodium glutamate in it? Chinese food, cheap crisps? (clutching at straws here) I suppose you couldn't have actually got sunburned and not realised? I guess you will have to get gp to check it out.

3littlefrogs · 17/09/2006 22:31

DH thinks unlikely to be those antibiotics

livelife · 18/09/2006 07:35

did you have strawberries last week?
