Feel so so ill

I am feeling so sorry for myself, I feel so unwell.

I had cystitis come on monday last week, went to gp and was prescribed a three day course of trimethoprim. It didn't work so went back this monday and gp prescribed a further 7 days of trimethoprim.

Throughout this week I have been suffering with back and leg pains. This morning I felt really terrible so went to the out of hours doctor, the infection was still present in my urine so I have been prescribed co-amoxiclav. After taking the first tablet I have been sick several times.

I am so fed up how are these tablets going to work if I cant keep them down

Thanks for replying.

Do u think its the antibiotics making me sick? I felt a bit sick before I took it so not sure if its just another part of the infection.

I've been sick a few more times

Take an anti histamine first. Also try to eat something.

lemonmarmalade · 09/08/2014 13:30

I did eat with the first one I took, just took the second so will try and eat a little.

I only took the last trimethoprim yesterday maybe theres just too many medications swirling around in my stomach.

I'll try antihistamine too, I would literally try anything right now

Thanks for replying to me

No problem.

Just a bit of toast or biscuit so you are less likely to irritate the stomach.

If you take the anti histamine first then wait about half an hour before taking the antibiotic.

Sorry you feel bad cystitis is miserable.

Please call out of hours. Did your Gp send a urine sample to the lab? If not it could be that you aren't on the right antibiotic. If trimethoprim hasn't worked after the initial 3 day course you should have been given a stronger antibiotic - possibly nitrofurantoin.

If you have pains in your back The infection could have travelled up the urinary tract and got into your kidneys.

I think you need to be seen, have another urine sample dipped and take it from there.

Urine/kidney infections can get very nasty. I'd rather spend a couple of hours at OOH today than a couple of days in hospital on a drip.

Really hope you feel better soon Thanks

I've seen OOH this morning and been given co-amoxiclav, it was after I took this that I threw up.

I've taken the 2nd tablet and no more vomiting so hopefully they will start working soon.

The gp did send off a sample the first time I went almost 2wks ago, but prescribed more trimethoprim a week later, so I assumed it was the correct drug and I just needed a longer course.

I think it has definetly travelled to the kidneys my lower back is agony.
