Because I'm panicing slightly
So I'm 3 and a bit weeks post natal. 3 days after giving birth I had the Dr out because I was getting a pain in my shoulder and a bit across my back along with some breathlessness. BP and pulse was fine and she thought it was muscular.

Over the last few days I've still been feeling breathless but its more tightness just below the breasts and I feel like I have to sigh. I've still been getting the odd pain but its all over and I'm not in agony.
My mum thinks I might be a bit aneamic as she had this when she had me and she looked in my eyes and said they were quite pale.

Obviously I'm thinking the worst and have got in my head that it could be a blood clot.
Can someone tell me I'm being daft and reassure me its something and nothing?
Has anyone experience of a clot and can tell me what its like?

My personal opinion is ring NHS Direct or your GP. It may or may not be a PE but something obviously isn't right. Get it checked out, even if only for your own peace of mind.

Sounds silly but I daren't!
Dh is at work till tomorrow so I'm here on my own with dd and ds!

It could be many minor things but you really need to get pulmonary embolism ruled out. Please phone NHS Direct and see what they say, at the very least.

Charleesunnysunsun · 17/09/2006 15:12

It could be alot of things so best to get it checked.

I had a PE whilst pg and have suffered with them through out life. Everytime i have had one i get extremley bad sharp pain in my chest and alot of breathlessness, but do get it checked just in case.

YellowFeathers · 17/09/2006 15:35

CSS, I've not had chest pain which is whats kind of calming me its just the tightness.

Please go get checked to be on the safe side, my mum had a PE after my brother was born and nearly died - it's better to feel silly and paranoid and still be alive. It may also be that you have a different sort of chest infection you need treatment for and a chest x-ray could rule that out too.

I've called the duty Gp. He wasnt exactly great at reassuring me but said I shoudl have my HB level checked. He did say though that you get chest pain and racing heartbeat with breathlessness if its a clot. Well I haven't got the racing heartbeat or chest pain.

He asked me to go down to be checked out but I can't get there as dh is at work till tomorrow, no family and no neighbours! I thought he would have offered to come out but obviously not.
