Fasting for blood test

Ds 1 having a blood test tomorrow and was told to fast for 14 hours. Is he allowed water?

Yes, but only water so no cordial or tea etc :)

Yes, lots of water to prevent dehydration (which will make it harder to get blood) but nothing else. No gum, sweets, squash etc.
