my jaw has seized up

I have TMJ dysfunction and woken up today with a locked jaw. I can open it enough to wedge my tooth brush in, that's it. It's locked like this before but this time it's locked on the side. So my mouth doesn't shut properly.

I've taken my amitriptyline (sp) about an hour ago but it isn't easing. The painkillers have taken the edge off the pain but it's still pretty sore. It feels swollen.

Any ideas how to help it?

Can you purse your mouth as if you are whistling, and put your tongue on the roof of your mouth?
When did you last see a physio?

Sorry, yes I can put my tounge on the roof of my mouth but I can't purse my lips properly.

The pain has been pretty bad this AM so went to the Gp. I've been sent to the maxillofacial unit. Got an app at 2.

I haven't seen anyone about it since 2012.the last time I saw them they said that as the joint on one side was significantly smaller than other there wasn't alot they could do. They just said the usual. No chewy food and avoid eating on the affected side.

Sorry, been away. I really recommend a physio. For me it has been more effective than the work from the maxillofacial unit. They gave me a mouthguard (I don't grind my teeth - I hold my tension in my jaw) which stopped me sleeping for months.
I now go to the physio at the first sign of jaw tightness. Doctors won't recommend this as it's outside their traditional view.
