I ate beetroot last night about 9:00 pm. Went for bm at 7:00 this morning and stool was very red. I am trying to tell myself it's the beetroot. But is this too fast? Appologise if you are eating your breakfast.

It's definitely the beetroot - i remember my mum telling me when it happened to her only she was convinced she was dying and went inti s minor panic Smile she wasn't and all returned to normal.

I had this last week. I had a salad for dinner and when I went to the loo in the morning it was bright red. I too thought I was dying until I wiped and there was a chunk of beetroot

one Christmas dh ate three (of the big bags) of dried beetroot crisps over the course of the day. Then spent the evening in the loo & when he finally emerged, ashen faced, he was convinced he was bleeding to death. That was fun [he wasn't and the beetroot had worked its way through by lunchtime the next day!].

Perfectly normal for some. I once had it come through within 30min, but then I was suffering from some kind of foreign digestive bug at the time!

Turns you pee red too.
Blue slush puppies are the best though, deep turquoise.

Exactly the same here today. I now eat beetroot often enough not to think that I am dying, but it has taken some years of practice not to panic.

I'm familiar with the beetroot effect, but nothing prepared me for the horror of looking in the loo the day after I had a smallish dish of liquorice (black) icecream. You have been warned!

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 31/07/2014 11:37

Yup, purple poo we call it here! And it's always next morning for me. Messy.
I was utterly traumatised after eating a pile of home grown string beans to find them dangling out my bum post poo. I had to tug them out.
