Meant to be visiting a family member in a week but they've just told me that for the past week they've had shingles, we're meant to staying at their house for an important function and also to see family that have not yet met boys.

My sons will be 9wo when we go, are we best can cancelling, would hate them have got chicken pox at such a young age, also prem so still quite small.

NHS choices say you can only get it with direct contact, can virus stay around items on house? Rang HV but not much help!

Any advice/wisdom v welcome, thanks

shingles is not likely to transmit chicken pox unless there is direct contact with fluid from the rash. If it is covered then it makes it even more unlikely for transmission. The rash should also be scabbed over by the time you go if you are not seeing them for another week

Thanks, think will double check they've all stabbed over before we go!
