Painful ear

On Saturday, the First day of the school holidays and I was up in the night with a weepy painful ear. Went to OOH docs who said it looked like a small spot in my ear canal and gave me flucloxicillin, 500 x 4 a day. Not sure if it's that or my ear, but I feel spaced out and am so tired.
The pain is still coming and going, but not as bad, and my ear still feels blocked, full and is "whooshy". I've also had sinus pain, toothache and gum pain with it. Any ideas how long these things last for?

How are you feeling now, OP? Is it improving? Did they say it was behind the drum? I get ear infections quite frequently, and if it's "outside" the drum, they usually prescribe antibiotic/steroids spray, which take a while to work, but are soothing in the meantime, and don't make me feel crap. With oral antibiotics, if you're on the last day of the course and not feeling better, I'd be inclined to go to you regular doctor.

Ear infections are massively complicated by sinus/nasal congestion, so if you have (had) a cold, or hayfever, it might ease your symptoms to use a decongestant. I don't much like the side effects of most decongestants, but sudafed do a nasal spray which doesn't have any pseudo ephedrine in it, and that's not bad.

Oh, two more things...

  1. If it's painful, paracetamol is a pretty good bet.
  2. Never use cotton buds in your ear canal.

Not a huge improvement but feel less tired today. My ear feels more blocked and still whooshy with intermittent sinus type pain.
I've got an appointment with locum on Thursday so will see what they say.
The OOH nurse said she could see a pimple in my ear canal, so whether that's got bigger but I'd hope it would get smaller if taking antibiotics.
