Discomfort after an endoscopy - normal?

Had an endoscopy yesterday. Had cramps and felt bloated last night, and the same again today, plus diarrhoea (tmi). Normal?

Did you have sedation and/or pain relief?

Sedation and the throat spray - couldn't feel any effects of sedation - didn't feel sedated or woozy at all.

what did they find with the endo?
i had diarrhoea after mine too,
plus severe pain under left rib and upper left chest pain
drs i saw said it was caused by the procedure ,it had caused a painful flare up of my symptoms .

Hiatus hernia and gastritis. Neither of which I was expecting - I have had no GERD symptoms, just a feeling that I have a lump in my throat, high up. Odd!

I had one yesterday too. Not sure about the runs but I am sore and felt bloated last night. Did they use much air?

Redcherries: No idea how much air they used, I was concentrating on breathing calmly!

Sorry about your gastritis - what has happened with yours? Can it go away? They're not concerned about the hernia at all.

I had a HH repair and reflux fix last year so have a wrap around my oesophagus formed with my stomach (nissen fundolpication) if they do ever suggest it there is a great support group on FB that's private so you can talk about all your worries etc. without the greater good reading ;) Just search Nissen fundoplication.

Did they say why they weren't worried? Does it cause you pain? Did they say why they think you have inflammation?

They used reduced air for me because of the op I had before (I cant burp properly) but they used some, and the one I had about 4 years ago they used a fair amount. I went with no sedation, I think I left some of my teeth in the mouth piece but I don't think these things are often as bad as the idea of them. I have crohns but they biopsied for coeliac disease and H pyloi too. have to wait 4 weeks for the results. I guess it depends what it is will depend what course of meds they will use, plain gastritis I believe would be lanzoprozole, if its a crohns spread I guess I'll have to up the meds. Crohns is incredibly rare in the stomach.

I think Gastritis (in true terms) can be fixed but I'm not massively clued up, I've been googling and lurking on different forums ;) What were you told they would do or are you in for a wait too?

They were very matter of fact, said they'd send report to doctor but that they didn't think I'd need any treatment.

I have no pain or symptoms from either.

I see that gastritis can be caused by too much salt and alcohol - will cut down on those. All a bit weird!

They took a sample to test - for H pylori, I assume.

whats the symptoms of gastritis ? i have digestive issues going on so wondered .....

can be nausea, vomiting, bloating, sore tummy... what are your issues, Ballofworry?

IBS issues mainly diagnosed 6 yrs agoby gastrologist worse in times of stress , some indigestion heart burn , going to seegastrologist next week again as just want to have a check all is ok still ...

I have a raging sore throat! I'm going to make up some ice lollies in the molds.

Why did you have the scope if there were no symptoms? How did they know to do it? Sorry, that sounds abrupt, it's not meant to be, I'm just curious!

Because I've had the feeling of having a lump in my throat for almost a year now, following a really bad throat infection last August. It didn't go away even after a month of lansoprazole so was referred for endo. But still don't know what lump in throat is!!

Ahh, I see. Do you have reflux? It seems to go hand and hand with the HH.

It would definitely be worth looking at the support group I mentioned on FB. Everyone who is there is there due to this type of thing and may be consider, having or had the operation. I know a lump in the throat is something I have seen mentioned as a symptom but its not one I had myself.

Apparently you can have "silent " reflux where you've got acid reflux ( which will give you sore throat amongst other things ) without the classic heartburn feelings .

Sleeping with head of bed raised 2- 4" and or as upright as you can manage propped up on pillows ( memory foam pillows good for this as firmer ,I have V shaped ordinary pillow + memory foam cheapie from Primark + various others ) helps . As does not eating anything 4 hours ,3 hours etc before you go to bed .

You need to keep an eye on things , HH will cause acid reflux ,which can/will damage back of throat/oesphageous ,and can sometimes lead to Barretts disease where cells are slightly altered ,become pre cancerous and need monitoring .

Dont want to scaremonger but you are best of having info .

Argh. Horrible throat infection now - just the same as started off this lump in the throat feeling last year. Have antibs for it.

Asked the doc how the ENT people will look into my throat if the gastroscope didn't find anything.

She said they'll look down my trachea, into my lungs! But this isn't where the pain it, it's definitely in my gullet, when I swallow. Gah! Would a scan show up anything?
