Earache any suggestions?

Started yesterday with pain on one side of throat as if it is a gland. Went to my ear and has got worse. Can't sleep. If anyone has a suggestion for best thing to do I would be grateful. Hope to avoid doctor as I have had a lot of antibiotics of late.

Try a hot water bottle. Can really really help. I guess you've already taken paracetamol and ibuprofen?

Most of the time middle ear infections get better without antibiotics within about 4 days.

Outer ear infections can need drops though. Are you deaf, is their any discharge?

Deafness plus discharge would suggest an outer ear infection for which you should see your GP.

if your symptoms aren't getting better in a few days, or they're getting worse, consider seeing your GP.

Thank you all. Not got discharge and not deaf so am trying hot water bottle. Glad to know most ear infections clear up in a short time so on with the painkillers. Thanks again.
