Any idea what could be wrong with me. Getting scared

Hi I wonder if anyone has had these symptoms and could give me an idea what it may be. I am due at doctors on Thursday and don't want to use doctor google in the meantime.

Here goes. When I eat solid food I begin to struggle swallowing it half way through resulting in me gagging to dislodge it. This is very scary when it happens and I only eat soup at the moment to prevent this happening again. I get hot flushes and mood swings. Could this be anxiety?? I have a history of gastro problems ( helecabactor pylori) and heartburn all caused by me being unable to control my anxiety.

Sorry for long post. I am due to see docs of Thursday but just wondered if this could be something simple. Thankyou for reading

That all sounds very very odd. Please do go and see someone sooner rather than later :(

Thankyou both for your concern I will definitely go to a and e tonight if I have another symptom outbreak. When I went doctors Thursday it wasn't as bad as this it's just been getting progressively worse. I am a bit worried the tests come back negative and then am stuck with these horrific symptoms till they find the problem. I hope the results show up something then I can crack on with getting better.

Thankyou for the hugs much appreciated

I think you might be right though addictedtolatte in that your fear of choking is making you panic when you try to eat .
I found stuff like custard ,yoghurt easier to get down than water when I had trouble swallowing .
Hope you can get some sleep and that the GP will help you tomorrow .

Hi OP ,been thinking about you and hoping you're doing ok .
Have you had/about to have your gastro clinic appointment ?

I've had a lot of swallowing problems so here with a hand to hold if that's not too personal coming from a stranger !

addictedtolatte · 31/07/2014 20:06

Hi gingeroots thanks so much for your support it means a lot. Almost all of My blood test came back clear which is a relief. I have anemia my count is at 9.2 which is quite low.

I had an appointment for an endoscope on Monday but my swallowing problems made me too scared to have it done. I was given lanzoprazole 30mg by doc and she has agreed to do a barium meal which is booked for 6th august.

So sorry you've suffered this yourself you must of been terrified? Did you get it sorted in the end?

I have had such severe stress that I had similar symptoms to you. I had a referral to the ear nose and throat bods as it felt like I had a permanent lump in my throat! I also get an upset stomach as a result of stress and have been on Omeprazole in the past but find a month on strict Paleo diet (apart from having coffee) and the stomach and reflux cleared up. The anxiety didn't go away until I left the job that was causing it. I get flare ups occasionally and go back to Paleo for a while and that settles it. I may be allergic to gluten or wheat or something but a few days of fruit and veggies and no carbs always makes me feel better anyway.

Good luck with your results and I hope there is nothing seriously wrong OP.

My mother has a similar problem. Nothing was ever found, but when she began eating she felt that the food was 'stuck' and she'd then be sick. Once she was sick she could carry on eating. She found by trial and error that if she doesn't let herself get hungry and go too long without food she's ok. If she's been longer than about 2 hours without food she takes a gaviscon tablet 5 minutes before she eats and then she's ok. She carries ginger biscuits with her, to keep her topped up between meals.

addictedtolatte sorry you couldn't get the endoscopy done . I sympathise ,the thought of them is v scary !

The sedation really does work though and I don't remember the ones I've had .
I hope the barium swallow goes ok .

i'm fine now thanks ,all sorted .

addictedtolatte · 31/07/2014 21:39
