Recently had sinus surgery and rinsing x3 a day with a syringe.

Not sure I'm doing it correctly tho? I squirt solution up nostril with syringe and it pours out of other nostril....is this right?

I'm not getting any debris, should I be?

Sounds right to me, unless you feel there is debris that's not clearing? My consultant also recommended sniffing a bit as you rinse to pull the water back further into the passages.

I use a nasonex sinus rinse bottle, which has better capacity than a syringe, which might help. High volume, low pressure and the leaflet is really useful about tilting your head the right way. What temperature of water are you using? I found warm water was the most helpful for dislodging stuff (lovely!)

They told me to make up a pint of solution in the morning so first one is warm but cold by end of day.

Feels clear but expected id have scabs and stuff from surgery?

They didn't tell me much really just handed me a leaflet

Did you have surgery? How long did you rinse for?

I had sinus surgery 3 or 4 years ago. I kept rinsing for as long as I was advised (2 weeks I think), but I never saw any debris either - I remember being surprised not to see any blood / scabs.

The surgery was definitely effective for me though - have had no problems with my sinuses since - hope you get good results too.

Buy Sterimar spray, so much easier. It's fine for use after surgery.

I had surgery too, never saw 'debris'. Just kept it from being so dry.

i had nasal surgery and (sorry to be graphic) had tons of crap coming out of my nose. took a while for it to totally clear. when did you have surgery

Camsie30 · 04/07/2014 21:44

Hi ChestyNut, I had sinus surgery 2 years ago and that sounds right to me, up one down the other. It's so important that you keep doing it, despite how gross it feels!
I have to say that 2 years on and I'm so happy that I had it done, it was worth the pain and recovery time. Keep at it, you'll be fine

You need to tuck chin in and tip head towards the side away from the syringe. The liquid should go in one nostril and drop out of the other side. You may not get debris.

I've had three rounds of sinus surgery (mine is recurring polyps).

I rinse twice a day when I remember, using Nasonex - they sell little sachets to dissolve in the bottle (sounding like a Nasonex rep now!) but it's just salt and bicarbonate of soda, sometimes I make my own.

Had surgery two weeks ago.

Hospital said x3 a day for 2 weeks and reduce. I asked how long over and he said "oh you'll know when you can stop" Hmm

I don't?

Glad you've all had good results. It's been nowhere near as bad as I imagined.
