Propranolol - normal to feel this crap?

I've just started taking propranalol 80mg a day for headaches while waiting on an urgent neurology referral. I'm feeling horrible :( constantly sick and dizzy, and a little spaced. I know these side effects are normal, but how long do they last?

I've got to increase to 160mg next week and I'm dreading it :(

i had to stop taking it because it lowered my blood pressure too much -real bad dizzy spells-
perhaps your gp can try a different beta blocker,
good luck

jolufc · 27/06/2014 21:19

Took me a good month to get used to it. Took anti sickness tablets to help.

Boudica1990 · 27/06/2014 21:40

Took me about 3-4weeks to get used to it. It does take a while unfortunately :(

Pollywallywinkles · 29/06/2014 17:07

I only ever took one. The side effects were that bad that DH had to call 111 who sent a paramedic.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 29/06/2014 17:59

The side effects are getting worse. My entire body is tingling and seems to have pins and needles most of the time and I'm finding it hard to breathe sometimes, it's making my chest feel heavy. They're working a little bit on the headaches though.

are you asthmatic?
id phone out of hours gp for advice.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 29/06/2014 18:27

Not asthmatic
It's more uncomfortable than painful, I don't want to waste out of hours time, plus it's just me and DD in the house until midnight so I can't go anywhere

I started these last month for migraines.
I felt queasy and space out for about 10 days or so.
No problems now but I'm only on 40mg a day.

I think you need quite urgent medical advice to be honest. Tingling and hard to breathe are relatively rare side effects versus the spaced out feeling which is understandable with a beta blocker, albeit unpleasant. I took proporanolol for years without any side effects so it is definitely not par for the course.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 29/06/2014 18:41

oh bugger.
ok, thanks. i'll aim for walk in clinic first thing tomorrow unless it worsens tonight
i thought it was just a normal reaction :(

I am sure all will be fine but better to be safe than sorry. Probably they just need to switch your meds. There are plenty of alternatives. Sorry to hear about your neurology referral - hope you get sorted soon.
