....and I'm feeeling a bit apprehensive now! There have been a couple of threads on mirenas in the past few weeks and I thought I was sorted but now the day is here I'm a bit nervous! I think it's going to hurt as I had to have 2 CS in the past so my poor cervix has never dilated....need a G&T!!! Thank you for listening!

Hope is goes well Medulla - let me know how you get on 'cos I am thinking about getting one too!

All the best!

I've had 2 fitted and I had a cs. Don't worry you'll be fine! Take painkillers an hour before you go. When I had mine changed about 6 months ago the doctor soaked my cervix with local anethestic so I hardly felt a thing! At worst even the first (without anethestic) it was just uncomfortable not agonising. I now haven't had a period for 5 years and thats got to be worth 5 minutes of pain.

Thanks that makes me feel a whole lot better. Just off now, will let you know how it goes!

Shit - it really hurt! He had to put a bit of local in, I got the shakes big time. He was lovely though and so was the nurse. Now back at home, just taken 2 paracetamol and feel fine. Is that it then? Or will I feel sore once the local has worn off?

well done for having it! i found when i had the normal coil fitted the discomfort wore off after a couple of days.

Iklboo · 08/09/2006 09:39

I'm thinking of having the coild fitted as I have HBP am 37 an dthe docs are getting a bit iffy about prescribing the pill. Sterilisation is of course an option but it's a bit final....DH says he's known women who had the coil who suffered really badly with cramps & terrible thrush (3 weeks out of 4).....
Any advice/stories???

southeastastra · 08/09/2006 09:40

i've had the non hormonal coil for a couple of years. cramps are bad for about a week but apart from that have found it great

Medulla · 08/09/2006 11:30

oooh starting to feel a bit crampy now. Quiet afternoon for me and the children I think!

bear with it - it really is worth it oin the end, the best form of contraception for me (unless I can talk my dh in to getting the snip!)

schneebly · 08/09/2006 12:13

Well done medulla - hope you feel better later. Kepp taking the paracetamol every 4 hours!

Had a really rough afternoon but all settled now. If it all stays like this I'll be a happy woman!

Well done for being so brave! Had I read some threads before having mine put in I wouldn't have gone! (BUT I'M A BIG BABY!) Having said that, i've been period free (mostly) and no terrible side effects.

Can anyone tell me if it's the same coming out? i.e. do they clamp your cervix again?
