Have ongoing gnawing, burning below the breastbone. Also pressure sensation under right rib and through to back.

It definitely flares up where it feels like a rat is trying to gnaw his way out.

Am on omeprazole 20mg which is doing nothing.

Really bored of it now.

I'm not a do to but have you been checked for gallstones?

Harry1603 · 26/06/2014 21:37

Doctor! Damn autocorrect!

Kewcumber · 26/06/2014 21:37

Up your omeprazole to 40 for a week and back to the GP/consultant with you to get it checked.

wfrances · 26/06/2014 21:43

do you take gaviscon/peptac as well?(not a doctor)

chockbic · 26/06/2014 22:04

Ive had an ultrasound and it didn't show anything.

Sometimes take a gaviscon double action tablet.

Can't work out why it flares up.

MIne flares up due to what I'm eating, drinking and what time I'm eating. If going up to 40 for a week doesn't sort it go back to your GP.

wfrances · 27/06/2014 09:24

i was told to take 10 ml peptac after every meal and before i go to bed
raise my bed (head end)
dont eat /drink 3 hours before bed
i did have domperidone (it empties your stomach quicker )but it gave me awful cramps.
i had 20 omperazole for 8 weeks and it did nothing for the pain, but i have gord.
i have to have a camera next week and a scan today -to see whats causing the pain.
how long have you been on the omperazole for?my consultant told me it takes a while to work?

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 27/06/2014 09:36

When does it come on? If it's in the night then could be gallstones. If during the day then more likely dyspepsia/ulcer/hiatus hernia. Have you tried big swigs of gaviscon several times a day?

Kewcumber · 27/06/2014 09:48

gallstone would have showed on ultrasound.

How long you've been on it is a good point. Have you had an endoscopy?

chockbic · 27/06/2014 10:09

This has been going on for two years.

Gnawing pain comes and goes. Pressure under rib is pretty constant.

I haven't had an endoscopy yet.

Maybe I can try the peptac see if that helps.

BTW there's a lot of gurgling and bloating too.

OP posts:
SecretSpy · 27/06/2014 10:17

also not a doc

make sure they check for h pylori when you have your endoscopy

chockbic · 27/06/2014 10:29

I was due to have a pylori test but couldn't give up the meds long enough.

thats a long time to be suffering,
have you lost weight?
i was put on omperazole for something else, not for stomach pain
and found it eased the symptoms i was prescribed it for
when i finished the 8 week course i had awfull sharp burning pains ,bloating, nausea, gas ,stomach noises ect which i wasnt suffering with before i started the tablets
what has your gp diagnosed you with ?

chockbic · 27/06/2014 11:08

No if anything I'm gaining as feel kind of raw and hungry. Sometimes for the wrong foods [biscuits]

I've got acid reflux.

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 27/06/2014 12:30

how long have you been on omeprazole? You might need to be on 40 until symptoms are under control.

You really need to go back to GP or ask for referral to a gastro.

peggyundercrackers · 27/06/2014 12:32

is your symptoms related to what you eat? have they checked your pancreas out?

chockbic · 27/06/2014 12:39

The pancreas hasn't been mentioned only gall bladder.

First it was thought I have an ulcer then gastro said it wasn't.

I've had blood tests.

Its not related to what I eat though have tried going gluten free or less should say to no avail.

OP posts:
peggyundercrackers · 27/06/2014 13:22

depending on what blood tests have been done it might show up gallbladder or pancreatic issues. you can get gallbladder issues without stones showing on ultrasound but I think its unusual. for some reason woman do seem to have more gallbladder issues than men so it may well be that.

I have a friend who has similar pain and it doesn't seem to matter what they eat either and no one can get to the bottom of it - he has had loads of tests though but has a few other symptoms such as diarrhoea and passing undigested food. I think hes suffered like that for about 6 years now though and no one seems to know whats causing it so I can sympathise with you as I know what he feels like.

this may seem like a funny question, sorry i dont mean to pry either but how is your blood pressure? any headaches or sweating?

chockbic · 27/06/2014 14:36

My blood pressure is on the high side but not medicated

Don't really get headaches but do feel hot quite a bit

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 27/06/2014 15:06

The pain is exactly like my acid reflux pain which is why I have suggested doubling your dose to 40 (my GP and consultant have no problem with me doing this occasionally).

Anyway I would go back and see your doctor (unless you have only been taking the omeprazole only a very short time)

chockbic · 27/06/2014 16:53

Sympathise if you have this horrible pain too. Like being eaten alive.

I have booked appointment with doc.
