Are you very hot today then?

Tawny75 · 07/09/2006 16:25

Okay I have become convinced, I have ordered one of these things and will give it a go.

If I knock myself out trying to use it, on your heads be it....lol

Legacy · 07/09/2006 16:27

I stick mine in a box of cold water sterilising solution - do you think that's OK??

I'm considering getting one as fed up of ds destroying my tampon/sanitary towel collection. No matter where I put them he seems to get hold of them.

Woke up one morning to find him sticking the applicators from the tampons on the end of my fingers - it was quite surreal.

Just a quick question - do you get used to putting them in quite quickly and are they easy to use with small, nosy child in bathroom with you?

lemonaid · 07/09/2006 19:23

MrsWednesday -- my best guess would be that you don't have it up far enough. IME that's when it gets uncomfortable.

FrannyandZooey · 07/09/2006 21:03

Yay, well done Tawny! You will love it!

Ilovecaboose (do you? What are caboose?) - I found it really, truly, easy to get the hang of. I had a dry run first when it arrived because was scared of ending up elbow deep in gore but it is fine. I am a bit of a klutz so if I can do it anyone can.

Re small nosy child - well no, it is not discreet in the slightest. You would get questioned and poked and prodded, probably slightly more than with a tampon which I have managed to do sneakily with my back turned. It does schluuuurp a bit you see and then you have to wash it, in the sink. But if you don't mind either making sure you are alone, or answering nosy questions, then you are away.

MrsWednesday - have you tried emptying/inserting it when you're in the shower? I can't remember who suggested that, but I'm eternally grateful to her as I find it much easier to get it into position.

ilovecaboose · 07/09/2006 22:36

F&Z - thanks for that. I think I'm gonna give it a shot - hell he goes through everything I have at the moment I'm sure I haven't got much to lose

Caboose - really boring but its the name for a guards truck at end of a train - I chose it cos its also the name of one of my favourite characters. If we have have another child dp wants to name it Caboose I said no!

dazzlincaz · 07/09/2006 23:28

MrsWednesday, when you have inserted the mooncup, rotate it to make sure it is the right position. It does take a little practice (breathe! calm!) and preferably alone, LOL It is worth the fiddle of getting accustomed to it. You may well discover that your periods are less painful when using the mooncup too. I didn't really connect the two things until I read another email board, but it works for me and others too.

ilovecaboose - I found a tampon with part of the wrapper still on it, half-chewed, behind the stereo once! You have my heartfelt sympathy for your inquistive companion. Hope he doesn't do show and tell yet

MrsWednesday · 08/09/2006 08:59

Thank you so much for all the really useful tips - I'm now in the strange position of actually wanting my period to start to I can practice again!

Will report back....

Thanks again.

Holidaymum · 08/09/2006 09:03

Every time I see this thread I can't help thinking of mooncup soup! Very disturbing......

katzg · 08/09/2006 09:06

ok i want to take the plunge but have a few personal questions:

  1. i have always struggled with tampons, once they are a little full they start to exit IYSWIM, i think i am quite short inside would this be a problem?

  2. i also have leaking problems with tampons, so i have to wear a towel too and therefore swimming ect is out when having my period, would this happen with the moon cup?

JoolioTooterini · 08/09/2006 09:10

sorry haven't read all the thread but I'm a bit confused by the concept. People are saying they have trouble inserting tampons so how is inserting a mooncup any easier?

lemonaid · 08/09/2006 10:43

katzg -- I can't speak for your own insides, obviously, but I had both those problems with tampons but don't with the Mooncup.

JoolioTooterini -- Who is saying they have trouble inserting tampons? No one's said it on this thread. Mooncup is IMO more comfortable, more effective and more pleasant but I wouldn't say it was easier to insert (although with the distinct advantage that if you mess up inserting it you just take it out and try again, whereas with a tampon you need to discard it and open another).

katzg · 08/09/2006 11:07

thanks lemonaid - i think i will go out and buy one

Tatties · 08/09/2006 11:13

Ilovecaboose, I am not a seasoned Mooncup user (only on 2nd month) but I have managed to use it with my nosy 17mth old in the bathroom. I was hovering over the loo with my head bent over and he came over to ruffle my hair! I'd say you probably want peace and quiet the first few times, just till you get the hang of it though.

MrsWednesday, what is the discomfort like? I managed to do something wrong with it the other day - inserted too far, I think, and it was VERY uncomfortable and cramp inducing I have also found it gets a bit uncomfortable when it is full.

expatinscotland · 08/09/2006 11:16

I had the exact same probs, katz. And the mooncup solved all of 'em!

It took me 3 cycles to really get the hang of it, but after that, I will NEVER look back.

MrsWednesday · 09/09/2006 20:36

Tatties, I felt a bit 'bruised' inside really. I think I must have put it in wrongly, suffered instead of taking it out then generally felt a bit uncomfortable for a couple of days afterwards.

I'm determined not to be defeated by it though so will stick with it next month .
