Tampons

It's been several years since I've used them after two pregnancies and two years with a mirena so bare with me!

My dd2 was born ten weeks ago and I went on the pill at 6 weeks. I'm now on day 4 of my first withdrawal bleed and trying to get use to tampons again. Yesterday they were very uncomfortable, today not too bad. Anyway, tmi but here it goes. I've had a yellow (regular?) tampax in for 7 hours and on removal only the top half was absorbed with blood, the bottom half totally white. Does that mean I've not inserted it high enough? Just weird that there's such a clearcut divide of stained/clean. I didn't think blood was that clever!

Tampax are so long when extended that I genuinely don't understand how there are any women that they fit. Try a lillets. You'll find it far more comfortable.

Sounds like bleeding too little for a yellow. Try the purple maybe.

Tea1Sugar · 23/06/2014 17:42

I've put a purple in and will give it until I go to bed. If that too only absorbs the top half, well I have an odd foof!

Try a mooncup? (Or even better, a softer version like a sckoon cup or similar)

If you can get past the ick-factor of your own body, you'll never go back to tampons, I guarantee it.

Tea1Sugar · 23/06/2014 17:47

Does everyone on mn use Mooncups or something?!

OP posts:
13Stitches · 23/06/2014 18:47

Yeah I think so, you should give it a go!

(I think it appears that there are an inordinate number of menstrual cup users on mn as it's ok to mention periods and that here, whereas in real life it's not really discussed.)

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 23/06/2014 18:51

Stick with tampons. They are the only way do deal with periods. End of. Mooncups are just GROSS GROSS GROSS

13Stitches · 23/06/2014 18:58

No, treated pseudo-sterile polluting tampons are gross. One's normal bodily functions are not in any way gross.

Tea1Sugar · 24/06/2014 07:52

Well after using a purple tampon for 8hours overnight and still just the top has been absorbed, I've concluded I have an odd fanjo.

I agree about Tampax, try lillets instead.

How can moon cups be any worse than shoving bleached wads of cotton up you?Confused

GobblersKnob · 24/06/2014 10:56

Try a cup, nothing on earth would persuade me to insert chemically impregnated fabric into my fanjo now, it just seems such a bizarre idea.

iwantgin · 25/06/2014 08:38

It just sounds to me that your period is very light?

I love my mooncup - was 'converted' about 5 years ago - and it really, really makes periods so much easier. Tampons 'drag' when they are dry - and conversely leak down the string when on a heavy period.

Try one. you might be suprised.

Or is the bleeding light enough just to make do with a pant liner?

SpandexBallet · 25/06/2014 10:00

Team mooncup here too!! Why have a string dangling out of your fanjo when you can have something totally hidden away!

CakeUpWall · 25/06/2014 10:12

Mooncup all the way.

I've got several boxes of tampons which seem a waste to throw away, but every month I can't bring myself to use them. Actually, thanks for the kick up the arse; I'm going to chuck them. Smile

Tea1Sugar · 25/06/2014 12:21

Well I came on on Friday, no bleeding since yesterday afternoon and never needed more than a yellow tampax. So if microgynon means 4/5 day really light periods, then god bless that little yellow pill!

Pyrrhagena · 25/06/2014 21:07

Sounds like a very light flow. Now, if anyone can explain to me how I can put in an orange (i.e. Extra heavy), be flooding a pad after 10 minutes and when I take it out, the top 2/3 are totally white and the bottom 1/3 soaked, I would be very grateful.

Tea1Sugar · 25/06/2014 21:58

That's a mystery. Do you fan out the tampon at the bottom? Maybe the blood is bypassing the majority of it because it's a fast flow then pooling at the bottom and leaking?

OP posts:
Tea1Sugar · 27/06/2014 07:21

Well that very light flow was indeed my withdrawal bleed. Please be like that again next month, microgynon!
