I am off the Drs today to get some thyroid function test results back.
What do I need to be looking for despite what the Dr tells me?

I think it started about 18 months ago. It all started slowly with odd one off symptoms tiredness, feeling a bit groggy, not thinking straight, a bit weak, low on energy, glands up and down frequently. More recently I get whole days where I feel drugged up and get the odd day where I really struggle to function, hair is falling out - my hairdresser has mentioned how what was my enviable thick hair seems thin and I have to unclog the plug every time I wash my hair. Glands are up alot in neck, chest, armpits. My thyroid gland has actually swollen up on one side and is viably large some days - it does go down inbetween flare ups. I occassionally feel a bit twitchy and anxious and some nights I can feel my heart racing when I get into bed despite not having excercised or feeling distressed. My weight is stagnent - am struggling to lose weight but I think this is partly because I have no energy to cook so am eating quick fixes (ready meals, toast, jars and packets)as opposed to healthy home cooked meals from scratch and my physical activity has declined over time.

Loads of general bloods done over past 9 months or. All negative for Glandular fever, coeliacs, anemia etc but thyroid came back as borderline OVER active in March. I was told to wait 3 months and was retested on a full Thyroid function test last week.

My symptoms seem to be getting worse but my Drs seem very dismissive. No one seems concerned about my swollen glands. The Dr said if its borderline again this time there is nothing that can be done except monitoring.

Tbh - I am quite low and fed up with this now. Its starting to impact on my life quite a bit. I have been reading a few thyroid threads but its all gobbledygook to me. I would love some advice.

I am intending to ask my Dr today for the actual results so I can google and ask on here once I get them but what results exactly it I need from my Dr to be able to do this.

Any help appreciated. I am sorry this is a bit long.

Sorry haven't got time for a long reply, but you absolutely can ask for a print off of your blood results. I'm hypothyroid and if they are querying thyroid then they need to be testing your TSH, T4 and T3. The thyroid UK website recommends T3 test as well so make sure they do this.

With your list of symptoms I would be very firm that the GP doesn't dismiss you. Ask them why it's acceptable to just tolerate it. Have they checked for vitamin D and B12 and ferritin levels too?

You can ask for all your results.
Good luck!

The above is a good non woo website.

I would state too that if GP is unhelpful and or dismissive I would change GP practice. I would also now ask them for a referral to an endocrinologist, its not acceptable to actually be told to tolerate this to any degree.
