My 5.5yr old has been complaining that her nunu keeps leaking - even when she doesn't want to have a wee.
Anyone got an idea of what it could be caused by???

Hi Tillymint, sorry you haven't had any answers. My ds1 leaks a lot: he says he can't help it, but I actually think he just can't be bothered to go to the loo until the last instant! Doesn't sound like that with your dd: sounds like an infection. Get a sample up to your gp - not sure how you explain that to a small girl, I've had three pregnancies and still struggled with weeing into a tiny plastic pot! That bit at least is easier with boys. Hope you get it sorted soon.

lydialemon · 27/03/2004 14:36

Hi tillymint!

I agree with ponygirl, sounds like it cound be an infection. Without getting too personal, could it be a discharge rather than wee? If she's not uncomfortable you're probably OK to leave until monday and pop her along to the GP then!

Hope she feels better soon!

Hi , I Know this ia a really old thread but found it when I was searching.

This is exactly what happens with my dd whos nearly 5. She goes for a wee, then wipes herself, doesnt even get to the door before saying it is still coming out, I have checked and it isnt - it is dry. But she feels it is and she will be in the toilet for about 10 minutes, crying and wiping herself. Its really starting to affect her, as she wont do a wee at school which Im sure doesnt help.

The doctor just gives her antibiotics for a uti, but its not hleping. I would be so grateful for any info anyone has please - its horrible to see her so distressed.

Thank you

My dd3 is the same and has recurrent uti's, she has now been referred for an ultrasound to see if there is any underlying problem

plum100 · 20/01/2009 16:07

Thank you mrsdisorganised. When you say your dd is thge same do you mean no wee is coming out ? DD has a couple of uti's in 2007 so was referred for a scan to check for scarring of the kidneys but they were fine, I jsy dont know what it can be as she really isnt leasking out anything and when i tell her to go sit back on the loo to check she doent need to go again , she still does no more.

mrsdisorganised · 20/01/2009 16:38

DD goes from leaking wee all the time to thinking she is leaking but not IYKWIM, which is why she is going for an ultrasound although now I'm a bit concerned they won't find the cause after reading your last post....sorry I'm not much help to you.

loopylou6 · 20/01/2009 21:17

my dd does and says exactly the same

walkinthewoods · 21/01/2009 17:51

My dd nearly 5 has had recurrent UTI's and has been on long term anit b's. she's ben for 2 scans and nothing seems amiss.

DD also leaks wee, don;t know if its the UTI or she leaves it til right the last minute (she can go for ages and just wee loads) or whetehr it is when sh is holding onto her poo (she has a habit of doing this). I have read that when constipated that you can leak wee as you lose the feeling of when you should go (or something like that)

walkinthewoods · 21/01/2009 17:53

Just to add I am now researching complimentary therapies as I really don;t think all these ab's are good for her and it doesn't seem to clear the problem up.. Sh gets over one UTI and then just gets anothr.

mimsum · 21/01/2009 18:23

my ds used to leak wee when he was chronically constipated as his colon was so full it squished his bladder - might that be a problem? once the constipation was sorted, so was the leaking problem

mrsdisorganised · 21/01/2009 20:29

Walkinthewoods my DD is also 5 and I would be interested to hear about your findings with complimentary medicine.....she too has been on constant atibiotics which clear up the problem only for it to return a week afterwards....any advice would be good Thanks

Mrs D

I am leaning towards homeopathy.

I have read that bicarb of soda (adult dose 300mil to 1 tbsp so I halved it) helps at it does something to the ph balance of the urine. I read a forum where someone was praising alca seltzer (SP) and loads of people agreed, but when I researched the ingrdints I saw that it contained aspirin (children not supposd to take it). I then noticed that it also contained bicarb of soda. No-one on the forum knew why it worked, my guess it was the bicarb of soda. Apparently you have to take it on the onset of an attack. I had some with a sell by date in 2007 (it didn;t fizz) and dd wouldn't touch it. I've bought some more so I will try her again with the fizzy stuff. I am wondering whether I can mix it with something to disguise the taste.

There are alos some other things of interest, namely d-mannase (sp?) manuka honey (although not specifically for UTI's and I'm not sure it would help)

I have started a couple of threads about this and people suggested homeopathy.

I would lik to keep you updated (and anyone else intersted) and any other tips would be really welcome. I'm going to try the aqueaous cream as a soap....I've just realised this must be on another thread (losing my marbles)

Thanks I will be following your threads, am quite concerned as dd has been on and off ABs since she was 2 years old so it's too long imo.

nix66 · 22/01/2009 12:10

Hi thought I'd add my experience to the pot.

Has your dd always leaked urine (since potty training?) My dd (now 6)leaked urine from the time she was potty trained at 2.5. It always seemed strange because she had bladder control but always had wet pants.

Well to cut a long story short after seeing a nurse at the local surgery she got dd referred to the Children's hospital where they discovered she had an "ectopic ureter" which was an extra bit and a tube at the top of her kidney which came out in the vagina and not the bladder which was why she was wet. She went in and had keyhole surgery to remove the xtra bit and tube from her kidney and was perfectly normal straight after no more leaks.

Not saying that your dd has this at all, but it is very common apparently and does go untreated as is not something a GP will automatically consider. Hope that helps.

plum100 · 25/01/2009 19:51

Hi everyone, thanks for all your replies - My dh took dd back to the doctor on wednesday and I htought id fill you in on what they said.

DH EXPLAINED THAT SHES HAS A FEW UTI'S AND THAT RECENTLY SHE HAS BEEN SAYING 'ITS STILL WET (ops sorry), and that wee is still coming out' Doctor said that the results from herlast sample I took in a week ago, there are too many white blood cells showing that she is fighting some sort of infection. Normally you have about 10 and dd has 20 - 50. But she didnt give her anymore ab - I dont know why- but dh did get her to have a look and she said theres a bit of infection there and gave her sone caneston.

Since then it does seem to have got slightly better , she still wipes it about 5 times but she isnt doing the running back into the toilet to wipe it thing anymore or crying which is definately an improvement.

Dcotor said it to her that she must drink lots, pee lots (which she avoids cos of this problem), and only wipe it once.

So i will use the cream , it says for 4 weeks, twice a day - she also suggested putting vaseline on it in between.

I will keep an eye on this thread and if I can add any more info I will - its so horrible seeing them upset isnt it?

Good luck everyone ,and thanks again

APlum
thnks faor the update. Bump for any other input

Loobylou1987 · 04/11/2021 11:13

This is old my daughter does this aswell. She has had infections before but recent tests have been fine. I have read that if they sit with legs shut they can trap urine in and it comes out when standing?
