can't decide whether to take this for delaying my period for holiday in July or not. It is going to be a gamble isn't it? Reading old threads on here quite a few people seemed to have had bad side effects with taking it.

I did take it once before a few years ago ...and never got a period after as I was pregnant and never realised! I did have sore boobs and feel a bit rubbish but obviously they could have been early pregnancy symptoms so I'm not clear what sypmtoms were caused by the pills.

Anyone else had experiences-good or bad? Trying to work out what will be the bigger inconvenience, potential side effects or the period itself ?
Thanks

I have tried it and ended up feeling dreadfully bloated, with the most painful boobs ever and with PMT (not just pre, but during too) much, much worse than ever before.

I have chosen to put up with the periods for now (trying to get a coil fitted but that's another story!)

I used it on holiday last May, was absolutely fine, had no side effects and my period started about 3 days after I stopped taking it and was normal.

Snap. I took it to delay my period & I just ended up with horrific PMT & insomnia. I hvart taken it since.

TheFarSide · 11/06/2014 22:37

I didn't have any side effects when I took it (just to offer some balance!).

My doctor told me that they find people who suffer from PMS or have bad pregnancy symptoms tend to suffer on it, those without are generally unaffected. I don't know if that helps you?

arghhhh I can't decide. I wish I read up on it earlier as see some people suggest messing with the period before holiday so that you have the side effects at home then your next period is delayed enough to miss it falling over holiday time.
Unfortunately my period for this month is away to start tomorrow so too late for that trick!

I have also spent the last 6 months losing 35lbs for this holiday! I do not want to spend it being bloated!!

If you fit the guidelines you could buy some tranexamic acid (femstrual is the name in Boots) and combine it with ibuprofen, my periods have become manageable as long as I do both. There is also an orange coloured lillet box which has a higher absorbency than the purple packs, I can't remember how many grams they can absorb, maybe 15-20g?

Well, I am not the biggest fan, but would still take it to avoid period at a crucial holiday moment. But my periods are bloody awful.
