Talk to me about palpitations

I'm getting them.
Heart echo and 24hr ECG were fine so doc putting it down to medication I am on for ankylosing spondylitis. I'm on etoricoxib and don't want to come off them as they are good for my AS.
They don't happen all the time, come and go but not a nice feeling.
Are they dangerous? Mine is like a fluttering in my throat. Xx

The cardiologist who I saw prescribed betablockers, have they suggested prescribing them to you?

How strange, I mentioned this feeling to my GP last week. Very intermittent fluttering like a little bird in the base of my throat. I'm on quite a lot of meds. He's booked an ECG and various bloods but I'm expecting it all to be normal because it doesn't happen very often.

Very strange sensation, lasts about 30 seconds.

Yup that's it, bizarre feeling.

I haven't seen a cardiologist just had the ECG and scan and had a report to say it's normal. X

My consultants say if mine last more than ten minutes that is when to worry. Have you had a blood count done recently as many other things can trigger palpitations such as low calcium. Ask your GP for a full blood count just to check next time you are there.

I have regular blood tests for my imflammatory arthritis. Is that constantly for ten mins? Mine come and go all day but never last longer than 30 secs x

Yes constantly for ten minutes.
What medication are you on for arthritis it could be too strong even if your bloods are ok.

Sounds like you need an ecg if you arent born origionally with any cardiac problems and then from that they will decide whether to refer you for a 24 hour tape. Not a doctor but have life experience of this.

I had them, 24hr tape recorded extra beats but they're harmless.

My calcium levels were low, since they stabilised, the palpitations have all but stopped.

Most importantly, since tests showed nothing really wrong, I'm not so anxious, it's a vicious circle I think!

wow I meet someone else with the same problem. Glad to hear @Stampy that your levels are back to normal it's a pain isn't though always worrying if you will get called to a&e after a blood test.

Palpitations is the name given to the feeling you get when you feel your heart beat.

It is what is causing you to feel your heart beat that can be dangerous. For most people palpitations are just one of those things they feel occasionally.

If you had palpitations when you had the 24 hour tape on then it would show if there was anything cardiac causing them.

The echo looks at the structure of the heart.

I'm on etoricoxib, it's an anti imflammatory.
My echo and 24 hr ECG were normal , I don't get them all day just a few every now and then x

How much caffeine do you drink?

Hardly any, decaf all the way for me!

My gp today said that I had some sinus arrthmia on my ECG which apparently is nothing to worry about? A normal irregularity I'm told. X

that's good they are not worried.
do go back if it gets more frequent though. X

It has got more often in the last few months. But I don't have them a lot in one go. X
