Any ideas?

I'm not ill but am not 100% well, either. Haven't been feeling 'right' for almost a year, I'd say. Last summer I had blood tests etc and told that I was very anaemic (iron level below 8) and I also had fibroids. After taking iron tablets on prescription (which made me feel even worse tbh) I was then tested again and told iron levels fine.

If I tell you how I feel, maybe somebody will have some ideas?

  • pretty constant dizziness/feeling spaced out
  • pretty constant sore throat
  • frequent headaches
  • v heavy, v painful periods
  • pins and needles pretty much constantly in fingers and toes, and permanently frozen fingers and toes
  • v tired, even if I have lots of sleep
  • strange sort of 'dead' feeling in the top of my left thigh - doesn't hurt as such, but I am nearly always aware of it. It feels like a sort of dull ache, as if I've got a bruise

I hate going to the doctor's but need to go back to get more tranexamic acid for the heavy periods, but written down like that it all sounds so silly and insignificant.

Any ideas, oh wise Mumsnetters?

None of your health issues are either silly or insignificant.

Were you not referred to a gynae regarding the fibroids?. These can and do cause heavy bleeding to arise.

Rather than your GP give pills for the problem (and these will do nothing with regards of the fibroids) you should be referred to a gynae as a matter of course. If you have not been referred to such a person to date you should be and I would insist on a referral. Pills like transexamic acid do not address the overall causes of the problems you are experiencing.

Endometriosis is a common cause of very painful periods and you should be evaluated for this as well by a gynae.

Were any blood tests done to see what your hormone levels are like with regards to your thyroid gland?. That may well account for some of your other symptoms as well.

Thank you. Doctor said to try the tranexamic acid for a while before deciding if anything else should be done. Thyroid test was fine. Hormone test = borderline menopausal.

Could it all be per-menopause related, maybe? I feel as if I'm constantly moaning that I feel ill, but everything in itself is so small!

Not sure if anybody will see this but I forgot to say that I get a racing heart feeling too.

I've bought some, 'Well Woman' vitamin supplements in a desperate attempt to try something!

Have you looked up peri symptoms? It may account for some, but it's equally easy to attribute everything to peri-m when it's not the cause!

Sorry, not much help at all! It's horrible having a bunch of low-level symptoms with no obvious source.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/06/2014 13:53

Thanks, Yellow. I haven't looked up anything at all, for fear I might convince myself that I've got everything! Grin Will look for peri info now.

Have you had your b12 tested?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/06/2014 18:04

Nope. I did buy some B12 supplements from Holland and Barratt but I'm not sure they did any good. Took them for two months and have just finished them.
