My DS2 who is 17 next weekend, has just been put on it. He has autism and some learning difficulties and high levels of anxiety and his psych has prescribed it.

He started it yesterday, feels a bit sick and is not eating. Not sleeping either, but that's nothing new. Can anyone tell me how long the side effects will last for him? I feel AWFUL that he is needing to take any medication at all (he's like a 6 yr old in many ways.. total innocent so it's not like a young adult deciding to accept medication) He is starting on 50mg and will be reviewed in 6 weeks.

We just want him to be able to chill a bit and not be so anxious 24/7

its a godsend - after the first 8 weeks.

im on it. it took a good weeks to get used to it - at first i had some weird and wonderful side effects - loss of appetite, nausea, teeth chattering....

after 8 weeks i chilled....and i mean chilled.
it quashed my acute anxiety. and lifted my depression.
i love it - though it does cause vivid dreams.

ive been on it over 18 months now - its totally been a life saver - literally.
the first few weeks are tough.
come and join the threads on MH......,...once upon a time i started them but i am so much less reliant on them now - but they are a true support and lovely.
