perhaps it isn't thrush?

See what the results of the swab are.

Hopefully you get it sorted - there's nothing worse!

Pizdets · 21/05/2014 09:23

I had dreadful chronic thrush which turned out not to be thrush - it was a skin condition which is managed totally differently. Getting the diagnosis improved my life no end. Good luck with the swab and hope it gets sorted soon!

wonderingwendy · 21/05/2014 09:24

but it responds to the otc canesten ive been using after 4 days of taking it I might add.cant think what else would cause the same symptoms. itchy hot swollen and discharge.
the last two times I had an itchy bottom too .throughly miserable!

I had thrush every month and sometimes more than that, for the past 5 years! I have tried EVERYTHING I've heard of, literally absolutely everything, was under a consultant for 2 years, and the only thing that has worked so far is Kolorex tablets - look them up! Been fine for about 2 months now so still early days.

Get it sorted though because chronic thrush led to vulvodynia for me which is even more difficult to treat!

Nasturtium89 · 21/05/2014 09:27

Stock up on the non-steroid Canesten cream :) it'll relieve the itch and avoid vulvodynia

wonderingwendy · 21/05/2014 12:21

pizdets - which skin condition was it please?
and nasturtium89 what is vulvadynia?

I had recurring thrush. The GP gave me 6 pessaries. Had to use one a month whether I had thrush or not and it totally cleared it. I am prone to it though, one sniff of an antibiotic and hello more thrush

AryaOfHouseSnark · 21/05/2014 12:27

I agree, it might not be thrush. I am not a doctor or expert in any way, but maybe the cannestan treats some of the symptoms rather than getting rid of it, which is why it eases off for a while.
I would reccomend going to your local gum clinic if the swab doesn't show what is wrong.
I found them really helpful.

somedizzywhore1804 · 21/05/2014 12:30

I kept getting treated for thrush but it turned out to be eczema. I was treated with Canestan a lot and it did help because it's soothing but obviously it never actually cured the eczema. I've now got a steroid cream and special cream for washing with and it's 100% better.

eatscakefornoreasonwhatsoever · 21/05/2014 12:32

I used to get it terribly. What has really helped has been avoiding all soap or scented products going anywhere near the Nether regions. This means leaning forwards to wash my hair etc

Is this something you could try?

wonderingwendy · 21/05/2014 12:43

been trying the no soap for months now ,i will see what my test result shows then maybe onto the gum clinic ,thing is the thrush wasn't very active the day i had my swab done so it may not show up then what ?
i am with a new partner and i gave it to him and he was treated too so im stumped.

It's where the nerves are so used to there being a problem (i.e. thrush) that they get confused and think there is always something wrong, so you're always in pain down there. Mine only developed after about 3 years constant thrush so don't worry yet!

Nasturtium89 · 21/05/2014 19:22

I repeat, try Kolorex!! Can get it from Amazon.

wonderingwendy · 21/05/2014 21:13

it makes me so miserableSad
I know there is worse things you can have but its painful and uncomfortable and ruins my love life.
I will look into that stuff you recommended.

I know it is so disruptive :( I had thrush on my engagement, wedding, honeymoon, so many birthday and other occasions!!! Awful. Really hope you can sort it!! My consultant ended up telling me everyone gets it and it's just a phase of my reproductive life........ Brill!

wonderingwendy · 22/05/2014 14:46

There are fluconazole-resistant strains of thrush around.
Some people try courses of itrconazole or ketoconazole.

wonderingwendy · 22/05/2014 15:25

I will ask gp.if I can try that one too.humpf Sad

wonderingwendy · 22/05/2014 17:30

Wondering, sorry personal question but have u had sex at all since starting the flu console? If so it's possible/likely that your DP has reinfected you. Men often carry candida but normally suffer no symptoms.
It might be worth getting your DP to have treatment at the same time.

wonderingwendy · 23/05/2014 14:43

yes i had sex on day three of the flucanzole,he had already done a week of canestan before we had sex ,i do think he should go to the gp ,he said he will and im going back on wednesday to see gp,i will ask for a different tablet.
