Bleeding between periods

mistyegg · 20/05/2014 23:10

Just wondered if anyone had this and what could cause it? In the past 2 months, I've had a light bleed midway between my periods and now I've had another light bleed just over a week before my next period is due.

My periods are always really regular, I'm not using any hormonal contraception, in a longstanding relationship so pretty certain I don't have an STD and I'm also sure I'm not pregnant. Could it be just stress as I've had lots going on in the past few months or should I get it checked out with GP? I'd be grateful for any advice.

Do you have any other symptoms or just the bleeding between periods?

lucsnowe · 20/05/2014 23:23

So which day of your cycle was the latest bleed, mistyegg? The others sound like ovulation bleeds, which are quite common, apparently.

Tweasels · 20/05/2014 23:27

I've had this due to stress before. I'd go to the GP though, they were very good when I went and did thyroid and early menopause blood tests. I had it for 3 months and it just stopped so GP said more than likely stress induced (was a difficult time)

Defo get checked out though just in case.

How very weird! I've had the same thing for the last 2 months and was looking up old threads on it this morning! Initially I was pleased as it meant I wouldn't have it for holidays, but now as last time, it stops after a day or so and nothing only to resume in a couple of days time.
Bit TMI but is it dark and like the end of a period rather than mid/start flow?
I was reading about the peri-menopause the other day and it seems to be a symptom, although it seems loads of things can cause it. I hope someone can help!

Lioninthesun · 20/05/2014 23:35

I'm also seemingly constantly tired and and yet am awake at nearly midnight. Have put on a couple of pounds but not sure if that is connected.

Tweasels · 20/05/2014 23:40

You need a blood test too Lion

Could be Peri menopause (oh the joys) or thyroid - tiredness and weight gain would fit with that or might be something else. Best get checked.

Oh and stay away from Dr Google - no good ever comes from that Grin

Thanks for replies. I've had no other symptoms apart from a bit of thrush (which has been ongoing and a total nuisance for ages).

Thinking about it, it could be an ovulation bleed although I'm about day 17 of my cycle. I thought I had the bleeding twice in this cycle (last time about 10 days ago) but I think I'm just getting my days mixed up (as mentioned under a bit more stress than usual but hopefully back to normal soon). Last month it was about day 13 in my cycle. Each time it's been fresh red blood that I've noticed when wiping lasting about a day - this time there has been 1-2 tiny clots.

Can't decide whether to stick things out 1-2 more cycles and see if it settles down or if I need to make an appointment sooner to see GP.

Are you certain you are not pregnant? How long are your cycles normally? The day 13 bleeds do sound like ovulation bleeds. I wonder if you just ovulated late this month due to stress?

Lioninthesun · 21/05/2014 00:01

Yes, I will stay away from Dr Google! Ironically a friend on FB has self diagnosed with thyroid recently from Dr Google. I will actually go and have bloods done. Will call RL Dr tomorrow. Thanks OP for querying it and bringing it to the fore of my mind! Flowers

mistyegg · 21/05/2014 00:12

As sure as I can be without taking a pregnancy test! My periods are usually around 27 days long (often with a few days either side variation) and last one was normal and came at usual time and no different to any other one. I definitely had spotting last month too. I think late ovulation + a bleed linked to it due to stress is more likely (but a bit stressful as I can't be completely certain!)

No problem Lion Grin hope things go well at GP for you and it's something easy to sort out!

Hi. don't want to frighten you but might be an idea to request a smear too. Changes to the cervix can cause this tho there is often bleeding after sex too.

Millie2013 · 21/05/2014 07:18

I could almost have written that post myself! I've had bleeding between periods for the last two months and until Monday, the only other symptom was thrush/irritation, but the last couple of days, I've also had pelvic pain, with no bleeding, so I'm going to the GP tomorrow.

Nospringflower · 21/05/2014 07:21

I thought you were meant to see GP for any bleeding that wasn't your period - best to get it checked out.

Lioninthesun · 21/05/2014 08:17

I've also had night sweats since having DD and my temper has been very short recently (again though DD is a toddler, so could just be normal, but I feel like I just suddenly switch and can't stop myself). Just waiting for the Dr's phoneline to open in ten mins

turgiday · 21/05/2014 08:25

I had bleeding between periods that I went to my GP with. They checked how recently I had had a smear, and then just said it was one of those things. It did go away by itself.

Lioninthesun · 26/05/2014 23:40

Just wondered OP if you have had any news? I have a blood test request from my GP and just waiting for my childcare day without DD (Wed) to go and have it done. He thought thyroid or possible heart issues...

AnonButRegular · 27/05/2014 08:20

I've had this before. In my case, after blood tests and scans, it was put down to fibroids and cystic ovaries

Lioninthesun · 27/05/2014 09:51

I've had cysts recently too - but they are always .1mm off needing to be operated on. I could feel them though (and went to the doc with the pains) so I don't think it is that as I don't have pain.
