Swallowing assessment?

Already posted on Elderly Parents, but not much traffic and also it's obviously not just for the elderly.

Can anyone tell me what exactly will happen? DGM (I have POA) is to have a SALT assessment due to swallowing problems?

I didn't even know what a SALT did swallowing assessments until a few months ago, and I know the bare basics of what should happen, but personal experiences will be more helpful.

Hi, I only have dealings with SALT team and babies, but they watch the baby feed and swallow. They use a stethoscope to listen for swallowing sounds and feel around neck etc, it's mainly observation to begin with, then practical help to see if any special equipment would help ie special cups for drinking
Hope everything goes ok Thanks

Dd has this done every so often. It's easy. Barium yoghurt and juice and x rayed whislt eating and drinking. Dd says it doesn't' taste too awful and she doesn't appear distressed. They may use harder and soft foods too.
