Constant diarrhoea

For as long as I can remember I've suffered fairly regularly (once a month) with diarrhoea.

It's usually but not exclusively when I'm on or due on my period, and is usually ill have eaten a meal and within half an hour with get unbearable stomach cramps and spend the rest of the day or until I'm empty on the toilet. This is sometimes followed by very painful trapped wind for a couple of days.

There doesn't seem to be any particular food that sets it off but is often something rich/spicy/greasy, but it can sometimes just be fruit (pineapple) or salad.

This month however I've been particularly bad, I've had diarrhoea and stomach pain for 2-3 days three times in three weeks.

I usually feel quite ill for the rest of the day and sometimes it can happen in the middle of the night.

I had diarrhoea particularly bad in pregnant and I'm also getting a lot of feeling in my stomach like a baby kicking and actually started to think perhaps I'm a couple of months pregnant so took a test but of course it was negative.

I've googled but just get IBS, Crohn's disease, but I don't have any of the other symptoms, is it time for a trip to the doctors?

Just wouldn't know what to say as I've lived with it this long...

If you like reading scientific literature, this article might interest you - there is a link between female hormones and diarrhoea, so that might be relevant to you.

You really should pop to your GP and get them to refer you to a gastroenterologist. They shouldn't say it's IBS without eliminating everything else, and a change in bowel habits should always be looked into. As Thumb says, it could be hormonal, it really should be checked though.
