Throat numbing sprays, do they work?

And if so any recommendations?

I've woken up this morning with a throat so bad I shudder when I swallow. It feels horrible and I have so much to do today slobbing on the sofa with a book and feeling sorry for myself isn't an option. Booo.

Before I head to the pharmacy and throw money at this do they work? And if so which brand do you recommend?

I take diazepam and 30/500 codeine daily as well if it makes a difference.
Thanks all
Flowers

I don't know about sprays, but as a tour guide I always used tryozets, which I bought in boots. They definitely do the trick and kept me talking for 8 hours straight!

I've used Covonia Throat Spray but pharmacist might recommend a compatible one. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you both. I recall tyrozets as a child actualy, didn't realise you could still get them. I'll nip into the pharmacy. It's got to be bad when I'm willingly gargling with salt water lol.

Yes they work but be careful - you can cause further damage to your throat. Imagine anaesthetising your hand then putting it in a fire - you don't feel it but the damage is still caused. Extreme example, I know, but as someone who uses their voice a lot (teacher & singer) I have been warned against using them and then carrying on as normal. Gets rid of the pain, but you should then try to rest your voice.

I've used dequacaine tablets before and they work.

I'm heading to the chemist in a bit. Tbh I think It might get me before the end of the day because I've got a temperature now and starting to feel snotty.
Sofa might be viable by this afternoon. Ugh.

Gargle with Peroxyl mouthwash (hydrogen peroxide based) works everytime for us. Sore throat disappears in 24hours. Been using it for last 10yrs never fails.
