Breast lump referral how long?

Hi, I went to dr last week with severe (never had it before), breast pain. They suspected shingles (that type of pain), but it all eased off over a few days. Anyway. When she was examining me she found a lump and said she would refer straight away rather than leave it two weeks (to see if it went), because she was going away.

So how long would a referral letter take? I am thinking about 10 days? No idea really. I am not overly worried because I have neurofibromatosis so am prone to lumps in other parts of my body. It 'feels' like a cyst, or a what it think a breast mouse would feel like. So part of be is not inclined to rush to chase it up, but the other part says I should take all breast lumps seriously.

Thanks!

Arghh should clarify, the pain was nothing to do with the lump. Th lump is top right had side of left breast, and pain was bottom left side across in a line (hence why shingles was suspected). Lump is totally painless, I was midway through cycle, lump still there at the moment.

You are normally seen by the breast clinic within 2 weeks of seeing the GP.

Thanks for your reply. Ok will leave it a few more days and double check the dr sent it off. (Saw her last Friday).

Btw. I'll they want me to be mid cycle or anything? Or just roughly know where I am in my cycle? (Stuff online mentions you can be more lumpy near a period).

Thanks again!

GP told me that where we live if you have a lump you have to be seen within 2 weeks- as that is in their guidelines. So I would chase it up if I were you.

I have been referred for a lump and go to the hospital on Tuesday- they haven't told me that it needs to be anywhere in my cycle at all. So I don't think so.

Also- what does a cyst/breast mouse feel like? I am trying to ( by obsessively googling and comparing!!) work out what my lump is!!

As far as I understand a cyst type lump or a fibroedema thingy, is smooth, regular shaped, and moveable lump. I.e feels like a pea and sort of slides under your finger (according to the NHS pages these are usually harmless).
Will give dr a call back on Monday. Thanks for your help!
